Beautifully written...I took the view of this being about how bullying shaped your entire life. So many times we tell kids, or think to ourselves, when we're out of school, this will all be over, but it isn't.

Very loosely, "Cat's Eye" is about childhood bullying/abuse, and the dark side of female friendship. I would say that one of the most important themes, to me however, is the idea that in order to come to terms with one's present, one must come to terms with the past. While I did not always agree with Atwood's portrayal of gender politics here, "Cat's Eye" is a powerful novel about the complexities of gender and how that defines ourselves and our relationships with others. I would not recommend this be your first entry into the world of Margaret Atwood; I would suggest familiarizing oneself with her writing style before reading this one. To me, it was not as good as "The Handmaid's Tale", but still a powerful experience.

‘Little girls are cute and small only to adults. To one another they are not cute. They are life-sized.’

Well I wasn’t expecting this beauty of a story. It felt as though I was being transported back to playground politics in primary school (and beyond) 😳

I really despised Cordelia and had a lot of grace for Elaine (even though she herself was very vicious at times) 🫠 I really hoped that there would be a satisfying end to their friendship but there wasn’t…
I did lowkey love that Elaine took back the control. I know you’re probably not meant to say that, but there was something vindicating about it all!

I think I’ll be thinking about this book for a while 🥹 4 out of 5 stars for me, thank you ✨

I like her voice/imagery, but it was exasperatingly boring.
