Not sure how I feel yet.

3.5⭐️ Again great convos, writing and themes, but I didn’t really like either character and some things were left unresolved/unexplored.

For a character who wasn't Catholic, she sure had a lot of Catholic Guilt™

This was definitely my least favorite of Dare's "Goddess" trilogy. Isabel was a less lovable character than either Lucy or Sophia, and that made me less invested in her relationship with Toby than I had been in the others'. I have to give in to Tessa Dare, though - she really knows how to write good (marital!) sex scenes!

I really liked the first two books in this trilogy. I had my complaints but as a whole I remember really thinking they were rather good. However I just couldn't get myself into this final book. I was interested in the hero as he plays a part in the first book and I was curious to see how that goes. But his reiterating need to state his desire for revenge got old very quickly. And when it switched to the main female character I could care less. Oh well.

I was so excited for this book! Toby is a great character and he did all of the heavy lifting in this book. Isabel is boring and childish. And, Hetta and Joss didn't need to be in the book at all. I mean, Hetta and Joss's storyline seemed like an afterthought in a mad dash to wrap up everything before the curtain closes. I'm glad Isabel came to terms with herself but OMG stop whining. Yes, there are poor people and orphans and numerous other injustices but just STOP.

But, again, I'm happy Toby got his happy ending. And that even though he did some shady shit (newspapers, amirite?), he grew up and matured. It was nice to watch him over the 3 books.

Hated hated hated hated hated the female lead. Absolutely hated her. The entire time I hated her. The male lead deserves someone better than her

This is Tessa Dare's worst book. She's early in her career, and hasn't yet learned the skill with creating characters or the sense of controlled silliness that will make her later books so much fun to read. It was a slog, and I only finished it because I was curious about her early work. It's kind of inspiring as an example of how one can get a lot better at something with time, practice, and the building of skills.

I was not looking forward to Bel's story because she was so darn good in the second book of this series. And that was sort of an issue in this book that Dare kept trying to get into but then glossing over. But at least Bel wasn't as annoying as I thought she would be.
We met Sir Toby in the first book when he got engaged to Sophia, the heroine of the second book. Too bad he's the hero of the third book. Yep, he got jilted. And he decides to take revenge against Sophia's husband by hitting on the pretty lady that Sophia's husband is dancing with. Except that the pretty lady is actually the husband's sister, Isabel "Bel" Grayson. He seems to fall in lust and out of revenge pretty fast. And then acts like an asshat promising things that he knows he doesn't want to deliver on.
I think it is a testament to Dare's writing that I really had some issues with this book but still read it pretty fast.
