"La influencer" es un thriller entretenido acerca de gente horrenda que no se da cuenta que lo es. Juega con la hipocresía y la moralidad de los personajes, donde de acuerdo a quién cuenta cada parte, se ven como héroes o villanos.
El libro maneja tres puntos de vista, Emmy, una influencer bastante insufrible, su marido Dan, un escritor venido a menos y una tercera persona que busca venganza. El ritmo y la construcción de la historia son perfectos, hay cierto encanto en ir descubriendo como todo se conecta y toma forma. La tensión toma peso pasada la mitad del libro, donde algunas vueltas de la historia nos hacen dar cuenta que hay una trama secundaria que se venía gestando.
En general es un libro que me gustó mucho, mantiene el interés y la tensión, se siente que hay cosas en riesgo. Hay varios llamados de atención a las redes sociales y aunque los autores plantean cosas en contra de las mismas, también hablan de los puntos a favor.
Si debo criticar algo, el desenlace, si bien es interesante, se siente como si sucedió de pura casualidad. Hay cierta lección en eso y apoya los comentarios de los personajes, pero esperaba un poquito más.
En cuanto al final en sí, es posible que haya lectores que no lo sientan "ganado", personalmente me funcionó, especialmente el último punto de vista, pero es un cliché que es posible que no todos disfruten.
Mención aparte merece la traducción, muy acertada en detalles como los hashtag, la jerga de redes sociales, los nombres de usuario e incluso el nombre de uno de los hijos de los protagonistas (Bear en el original, León en la traducción). Podría haber sido una traducción literal y dejar esos elementos perdidos pero se nota el cuidado de la edición en eso.
Volvería a leer más de esta dupla autoral, aunque tengo cierto temor que quieran hacer una segunda parte de este libro.

A thriller about terrible people, social media, and obsession.
I can't believe this book made me cheer for the "evil character" at some point -even if all the characters are morally grey and all-around awful people-.
It was a super fun read, with 3 alternating viewpoints working in perfect sync. I liked how the story unfolds and we discover the full picture. Some things I was expecting but others were a nice surprise, the final twists are cleverly plotted.
The end was... something. It worked for me but it might not land with some readers. I don't see it as a drama as much as a satire to show us how hypocritical the people are.
That being said, this book has a lot of great things to say about social media and public figures. Yes, it's sarcastic in some points but if you idolize influencer culture, this might feel like an attack.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and I would read from this author again. It was well-written and had great pacing.

She thinks she has it all figured out: the follower count, the timed posts, the #ads, even the dreaded algorithm. What she doesn't know is that there is one person who is following her a little too closely, slowly plotting her demise, and she will stop at nothing to orchestrate Emmy's fall from social media royalty.
This book is definitely dark and twisty. There were some plot twists that I kind of saw, but a good handful of them I didn't quite figure out. I liked hearing from three individuals' points of view. I didn't really like Emmy's character, although maybe we weren't supposed to? She was a bit too contrived and cringe-y for me, for lack of a better term. I think it's because often I find influencers in real life to be this way, so it just translated over to the book. The authors did a great job of portraying that influencer attitude, though, so props to them. This book makes you really consider the dangers of a constant online presence, which is something that nearly everyone nowadays can relate to.

I read this book in a day, once I picked it up I just couldn't put it down without finding out how it ended.
This book gives an uncomfortable look at social media influences and commentary on society's obsession with how things look and how much of what is put online is believed.
Following 3 characters - the influencer Emmy, her husband Dan and the unknown character who blames Emmy for their tragedy. We see how Emmy's obsession with posting online puts her and her family at increasing risk of actual harm.
I found the writing and story intense, compelling and uncomfortable in equal measure. This is definitely a couldn't put it down read.
This book comes with a lot of triggers so please look them up before picking up this book.

This book explored the exploitive nature of families online. We follow a mother who runs an Instagram account documenting her life as a mother of two children. The catch is she isn't very truthful and plays up for the camera to gain popularity and be relatable. We also get the point of view of her husband a writer who is trying to write his second book. He is wary of putting their kids online and has suggested this to his wife. Lastly we have the point of view of a stalker we don't know who this is and leaves you guessing throughout the book which I really liked. The Stalker has had a past with the mother and now wants revenge and will go to extreme lengths to do so. Overall, this is a really good book, and one of its kind. I felt the writing was quite wooden at times, this may have been due to the authors info dumping about social media.

I was surprised how much I liked this. i thought it'd be more shallow than it really was. Although I marked this as mysterious, it's not really a mystery. You follow the stalker as you move along with Emmy and Dan. ALthough triggering, being an active participant of social media I felt this was quite an accurate portrayal of the dark side of social media. I actively share the dangers of misinformation. Misinformation truly does kill, in real life. So I actually empathize with the stalker and understand how she got to where is after losing both her daughter and granddaughter. I also understand why she placed her blame on Emmy. Emmy was an absolutely irresponsible influencer and was an influencer for what many would see as all the wrong reasons. At the same time, Emmy isn't wrong in showing how it is a business. But this business is strongly woven with moral responsibility due to the liabilities that follow being an influencer and that is the point of this fictional cautionary tale. Many do not see or agree with the moral responsibilities of being an influencer. I wouldn't say this was all a happy ending. If you want closure at the end, there is none. Overall, was this book great? no was it horrible? not for me, but I feel I simply resonated with the message enough to overlook the flaws.
