P.S. I spook You was thoroughly enjoyable. I loved the characters; the story was interesting (although that very last part was predictable - rule of thumb: never piss off anyone serving your food, never ingest anything from someone pissed off at you); and the atmosphere was surprisingly (considering the subject matter) light and angst free. The story is told from the perspective of FBI agent Rain Christiansen (technically that’s Rainstorm thanks to his Hippie parents) and adds a humorous touch because his “voice” is wonderfully sarcastic and completely hysterical and endearing – I want to be his straight BFF.

Rain is fresh off a 2-month administrative – aka psychiatric leave – after telling the parents of an open abduction case he was working on that their daughter was at peace because her ghost kept bugging him despite his best efforts to ignore her, and all the other ghosts he saw. He caused enough of a ruckus among, well everybody that he still isn’t exactly considered fit for duty yet and his supervisor – who really is in his corner - gives him his choice of cold cases to work on to remove himself from the situation awhile longer and continue clearing his head. It’s not exactly clear why he chooses the 5-year-old Brickell Bay Miami case of the teenage girl – Amy Greene – gone missing. It does take him to the outskirts of his hometown; where he seems to have somewhat ambivalent feelings about his hippie parents and his fraternal twin Skyler, and his hot police officer ex. Boyfriend Danny McKenna who he left 3 years ago to take a job with the FBI.

Being back home and working with Danny again stirs up old feelings because Rain didn’t entirely leave for a job. He left because he considers himself an abnormal freak what with the seeing ghosts all the time; which he sort of thinks are more signs that he’s losing his mind and pops pills to mute their presence. The whole thing has also left him a bit not so much commitment phobic but closed off and guarded. And it doesn’t help that Danny has his own demons and isn’t anymore open or forthcoming. They even have a safe word for boundaries. Yep, not “stop you’re whipping me too hard”, more like “stop you’re asking me uncomfortable personal questions”. Still they had fit well and had a nice relationship with comradery and great sex and Danny while welcoming Rain back as a friend, still has his nose out of joint about his partner of four years kicking him to the curb
.
Being home is good for Rain. He talks to his somewhat eccentric, new-agey sister and considers maybe meds aren’t the way to go. Maybe Ethan – the teenaged ghost that’s been hounding him to get a message to his parents – is right; maybe he is a medium, or a bridge or someone alive who really does see dead people and is able to help them get closure and move on. And Maybe if he really does have feelings for Danny he has to take a risk and be honest and let him know the real Rain.

I thought there were some funny moments. There's nothing in particular that made me rate this three stars, other than that's about as much as I enjoyed it. I'm glad I read despite how much I hated that the main character is called Rain. I'd definitely buy the sequel on sale and paying full price isn't out of the question, but not good enough to be an impulse buy.

I LOVED this! This story is hilarious and has a lot of heart.

I loved Rain. And Danny. Well, actually, I loved all of the characters. The humor and banter is top notch, as usual with SE Harmon. Rain & Danny are maybe my favorite couple of hers. Their slow burn second chance romance had me on edge the whole time. They had excellent chemistry and their sexy times were hot af. They definitely read like a couple who knew each other in the bedroom

I don’t consider myself an adept mystery solver and I figured this one out pretty quick. And when Rain did a really dumb thing, I was like come ON!! This is some dumb “imma go check out that noise” in a horror movie shit

It was nice. Though the only thing I got from their relationship was that they liked to have sex with each other, and both had trust issues. That's it. Nothing deeper.

A really fun first book in a series.
I like that it takes place in Miami instead of the usual NY/LA/DC.
The FBI gave Rain one choice, work a cold case and show that his "ability" doesn't keep him from doing his job or find another one. That is how he finds himself close to his home town and the man he left behind.
Danny is great because he's honest. He was blindsided and heartbroken when Rain left almost 5 years ago and now that he's back there is hesitance to get close to him again.
But when they do give in to the feelings that never seemed to disappear it's chemistry and laughter and I really loved them.

Re-read Feb 2022 - I enjoy my re-read of this one as much as I enjoyed the first.
Rain really resonated with me because his internal dialogue was hysterical and brutal.

Love this series.

Eh, this was fine. M/M second chance romantic suspense with ghosts. I never really connected with either of the heroes, the ghost stuff felt kinda superficial, and I didn't particularly like the mystery.

10/10, A+, no notes … a perfect book. Rain is one of my ALL TIME favorite MC’s now (sarcastic and tough and sweet but pretends not to be). This is how you do a second chance romance. Immediately diving into book two.

He chuckled and kissed me again. “You taste soft and sleepy and sweet.”

I could do a little better than that. “You taste like home.”

Oh my god, I can't believe it took me this long to start this series. This was EVERYTHING. It was all my favorite tropes and book quirks wrapped into the perfect couple. I adored Rain and Danny. The teasing, flirting, and easy way that they fell back into each other! It was so well written, and their relationship just made sense - all their interactions showed their history and how it feels when you really get to know someone.

For all of my determination not to go down that road again, I realized that sometimes in matters of the heart, you didn’t really have much of a choice. I was in love with Danny again. Maybe I’d never stopped.

Second chance is such a tricky tope to do well but this was phenomenal. The regret of the first break up, the want for the second chance, the initial distrust that morphs to remembering how good they were together???? Yes, please.

I truly have nothing negative to say about this book, it hit in all the right places, it made me smile and laugh, and how wonderful is it that there are 3 more books!!

Great start to the series

I loved this book. I loved Rain and Danny. The mystery is good as is the paranormal aspects. Flashes of humour keep this from being dark. I’m looking forward to the next book!
