Big Meh.

I really liked the premise of this and this book was actually surprisingly funny at times. Rain had a great sense of humor. But that basically concludes the things I liked about this book.

Thecold case they were working on in this honestly wasn't all that interesting, once you got the gist of it. And the reveal of who did it didn't really come as a reveal, but rather Rain putting together some context clues and then his partner saying "Well, we don't have any evidence, so we can't do anything." and then later it turns out Rain is actually right with a dramatic showdown that had pretty much no build up and felt a little bit out of place and was over in 2 minutes anyway. So I wasn't really invested in the crime aspect.

Unfortunately, I was invested in the romance even less. I really don't think "second chance romance" is for me. These two characters already had all this history together and everything we get to know is that they are totally hot for each other and still in love. And I could actually get on board with this. I thought Rain breaking up with Danny, because he didn't want to open up about his ghostly abilities was an interesting concept. But pretty much as soon as these two get back together as partners it's just "God, I wanna fuck him so bad." and "Why did we have to break up? I'm definitely still in love with him." And then it's this weird back and forth between "We're just fucking." and "I wanna get back together." and there was pretty much no tension and because I wasn't attached to these characters at all, their smutty scenes were just plain boring to me.

So aside from Rain's humor, this book didn't really have anything holding my attention. It's not like there was something inherently wrong with this book, I just thought the pacing was kinda off and I wasn't invested in the characters or the main plotline.

I did listen to the audiobook of this and while the narrator wasn't awful, his voice was actually quite nice to listen to, I had a really hard time keeping track of who was talking, Rain or Danny, because their voices were pretty much the same. Sometimes I couldn't tell of Rain was just thinking something or actually saying it. And lastly, I don't know if it was because of the audio book, but I had a really hard time keeping track of all the characters, especially everyone involved in the crime.

So, I can't really recommend this, I personally didn't enjoy it.

My first foray with S.E. Harmon was The Blueprint series which I liked alot, so I'm slowly trying her other works.

One thing I can safely say for Mrs. Harmon is that she writes some incredible hot sex scenes!!!

As far as the main story plot line of the book I liked it fine, the mystery had me guessing up to the point the pictures behind the canvas were discovered. Loved the interactions between Rain and Ethan the ghost and Rain and Daniel *waggles eyebrows*.

I didn't love the story because alot of things were summarized or pushed to the side, like Anna's ghost (Daniel's sister), what happened with Amy's family and Jenna after the truth came out, Ethan's story and Rain talking with his parents.... I'm guessing there might be other books coming, seeing as this is a series but I don't think that the above will be addressed since in the end Amy and Ethan are cases closed.

Nevertheless I liked it enough and it was interesting so I'll continue with the audios.

As far as narration goes, this is my first audiobook with Noah and I liked his narration and his voice, he really brought the emotions forth so 4 stars for him ^^.

I really liked this one - it reminded me of Adhara's Wolf books, and I didn't really put it down once I started. The romantic arc was a second chance, so that felt rushed to me. I think I might listen to the next one, since I like to do that with the Adhara books.

I think this is a story with romantic elements rather than romance. It was well written although i am not generally a big paranormal fan.

This book was recommended to me by one of my best friends and it did not disappoint!! If you are a fan of Ghost Whisperer and Criminal Minds, you will love this mash up! Throw in a ton of Pop culture references (Danno was my favourite) and a snarky main character that will make you laugh out loud with his inner dialogue!
Rain, yes that is his name, thank you very much, his sister is called Sky, is a profiler for the FBI who had to undergo a psych eval after it came out he talked to ghosts. Since his team didn't trust him anymore, he got assigned cold cases. Out of the possible choices, he chose the one case that brought him back to his hometown, to his family and Danny, his ex partner in job and life. Chaos ensues and sooner rather than later, Rain has some big decisions ahead of him.
The writing is superb, the characters amazing, the plot interesting, this was a solid 5 star book and I cannot wait to start the next one in the series. Keep 'em coming, please!

All the stars!
