I rate simply: 5 = liked it, 3 = meh, and 1 = didn't like it.

Easy read but I really liked this one. I love WWII era books.

Audiobook

I am a sucker for books about bookstores. This being a historical fiction about the war in London it obviously doesn’t leave you with cozy bookshop vibes, but rather the resilience and courage it took to keep bookstores open—and how absolutely essential books were for people’s mental health. For as much loss as the characters and the town of London suffer, the book leaves you with hope. It’s a testament to the mr rogers quote about how when he would see scary things to “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” This book is filled with exactly that. There’s a plethora of found family in the truest sense. There were a few spots that dragged for me, but overall a good historical fiction with a bookish emphasis.

Book lovers will get it.

I love books that take place during WW2 and I love books about books. This one was fluffy, didn’t go very deep, was predictable, and rather dull. I almost DNF but it had such great reviews. I was hoping for a twist. There was none.

I'd recommend!

If I could give this book 6 stars, I would.

War books are difficult. They're either unbearably heartbreaking (I'm looking at you, Ruta Sepetys), boringly technical, or unrealistically romantic. This one, however, struck a perfect balance. It brought me to tears nearly every time I picked it up as it did not avoid some of the most awful aspects of war. Yet, it was so infused with hope and goodness that one cannot walk away from it in despair. Rather, I leave this book with the determined joy that only a perfect story can bring.

Furthermore, it is an ode to all that books are and all that they can accomplish. Escape, joy, connection, empathy, delight, adventure, and security are all found within the pages we read. Books won't win a war, but they may just teach us how to survive one.

In summary: READ THIS ONE. You won't regret it.

This was probably a 3.5 for me if I was able to use half stars. While the story is interesting, it leaned a bit too saccharine for my taste.

Not bad on audio.

Llevaba mucho tiempo sin conectar tanto con una lectura y debo reconocerle conmovido
