unsure how to rate this one (or rate poetry in general tbh), but i originally gave it 5 stars so that it had a rating and didn’t feel, like, left out? i don’t know how to explain how my brain works (also though, it does deserve a very high rating, i just think poetry can be even more subjective than other literary forms!) There are those who think poetry shouldn’t be political. Those people have no ideas what they are talking about. This is the type of poetry I want to read for the rest of my life. As Noor Hindi said “Colonizers write about flowers.” I don’t want to hear another colonizer gripe about flowers ever again.
I learned a lot from this collection of poems. The language was beautiful in a haunting way. The parallels between what is happening now and what happened then cannot be overlooked. I hope we live to see a free Palestine in our lifetime.
