funny lighthearted fast-paced
Diverse cast of characters: No

Действительно довольно неожиданные истории, которые интересно читать. Другое дело, что в них помимо интересного сюжета с неожиданной развязкой ничего и нет

One of my all time favorite books. I LOVE all is the stories

Knowing that all these had an unexpected moment led to some mid-collection fatigue, but great as always.

These short stories must not be mistaken with Roald Dahl's children's books. They are nightmarish and ghastly but gripping in suspense and plot twists...

These are just really good. Did not expect to be so absorbed. Would recommend.

You wouldn't expect Roald Dahl to be a children's writer after this. The short stories are crafty, extremely well-written and have disturbing connotations. I really enjoyed it.

http://nhw.livejournal.com/1070927.html[return][return]This volume combines the short story collections Tales of the Unexpected and More Tales of the Unexpected - I must have read the latter some time, but a lot of the stories in the former were new to me, eg the one with the disembodied brain which I think I would certainly have remembered. They are all real masterpieces, and actually reading them all at one go is probably not the best way to enjoy them - they are best piece by piece.

Very amusing. I noticed a lot of the stories involved gambling which I thought was an odd theme. My favourites were The Landlady, The Way up to Heaven, Parson’s Pleasure, and Royal Jelly. In other words, anything vaguely similar to The Witches and George’s Marvellous Medicine.
