So overwrought! Wanted to abandon it but also curious whether it stopped reading like it was written to go straight to DVD. It didn’t. Not even believable in terms of Willowdean’s chutzpah. Oh well.

I love Willowdean Dickson. As someone who has struggled with weight all my life, I can honestly say that everything she thought, including her being judgmental about other girls, all rings true. I've seen a lot of criticism that Will judges other girls as harshly as she doesn't want to be judged. But be honest: we've all done it. Every single one of is insecure, and we all judge others to make ourselves feel better. I LIKE that Will is just as paranoid as everyone else. I LIKE that she's judgmental. It makes her a real and believable character. Great book, and I can't wait to see the movie!

Worth every second of reading. I adored the loose writing style and the message this book has to offer. The plot and characters were different and dynamic. Overall this book was extremely enjoyable!

4.5 stars. I laughed and I cried, so I loved this book. I think the best part of this book is that Willowdean is a very real character. She is confident and positive, and just seems like the kind of person everyone would want to be around. She also has flaws, some of which she points out and worries about herself, and some of which the reader gets to see from an outside perspective. Her reaction to events that arise throughout the story, both major and minor, seems very authentic even when it's not necessarily the best response. Willowdean's relationships with the other characters throughout the story also really made this book stand out for me, however I didn't enjoy the way her relationship with her mom was portrayed. I felt like her mom was a bit too predictable and self-centred, and lacked some of the balance between assets and flaws that the other characters all have.

“I think you gotta be who you want to be until you feel like you are whoever it is you're trying to become. Sometimes half of doing something is pretending that you can.”

This was a very fun book, with some really great, and relatable characters. At times I felt really connected to Will, and her struggles and insecurities were things I've gone through a lot. There was even a scene towards the end that made me shed a few tears because of how it touched me.

I thought the story felt a little unfocused at times, but was overall really good. I do wish that we would've spent more time on Will practicing and such for the pageant. For something that was supposed to be an important part of the story, it kinda felt like an afterthought at times.

And last, but certainly not least, is Bo. He was probably one of my favorite things about this whole book. He's so sweet and endearing, he just makes my heart feel all fluttery any time he pops up. He's definitely one of my new favorite book boyfriends!

I was hoping this book would be...more...I don't know, empowering or something.

Instead, I thought it was crass. Willowdean looked down on everyone not like her--including her mom and her best friend. And then, the whole reason she liked Bo was because of a fiery spark when they made out behind the dumpster? NOT because of any good quality like, I don't know, taking care of your mom, following a friend home because you saw them cry, talking to a little boy on Halloween and basically EVERYTHING MITCH DID.

And I certainly wouldn't straight hand this off to a teen. Too much language and casual sexuality, imho.

I feel like writing an actual (and by "actual" I mean long) review of this book would not translate how much I liked it and how good it is.

So I'll get to the point: THIS BOOK IS A MUST-READ. READ THIS BOOK. READ IT NOW!

Happy reading y'all! ;)
