This book was about Savvy discovering that her life isn't as wonderful as she thinks it is. Especially after her long-term boyfriend dumps her in the most shallow and pretentious way ever.

Savvy decides she's going to change her life for the better and discovers, along the way, that even what she wants for herself may not bring her happiness. I loved following Savvy through her fitness journey to just get stronger and have more energy. I adored her boss and how he helps evolve her role to better fit her lifestyle and not force her to change completely for a promotion.

There was also a love story involved but I enjoyed how it wasn't the main focus of the book. The author made a point to display her ride-or-die relationship with her friends over Spencer, the super sexy contractor who Savvy thought was homeless. They mention this multiple times in the book and it kind of irked me a bit. Maybe because I live in a city with a high homeless population and I didn't think it was something to joke about(?). Don't let that deter you from reading this novel though. It's all about a woman doing the most to better herself when her life is falling around her and she kills it. Such a fun read.

I really wanted to like this book but could not get on with the writing style at all. It felt too quick and too slow in places. There is a lot of detail and description about her day to day work which sometimes felt like too much to me. I feel like this would have made a better film or TV show than book- which is not something I have ever said before!

Not that I didn't like this book. I enjoyed it for the most part. I think everyone wants friendships and family members like Savvy has. And the problems she has come across are so relatable to me that it made me want to continue reading.
However, I like reading romance novels for the main characters. I want to see their romance at the forefront of a story. So when Savvy and Spencer constantly came across each other I thought that was cute, but it took them almost close to 100 pages just to have a full conversation.
I'm not DNFing this book forever, and maybe when I want an uplifting and happy story I'll come back to it, but for right now. It's not for me.

The Song: That's My Girl by Little Mix
The Tropes
✔️ friends-to-lovers
✔️ transformation
✔️ rom-com

The Characters
Savvy: Girl. I don't know that I have ever related to a character as much as I have you. You represent me in a book character in a way I haven't had in a long time. I think the last time I related this much to a character was Spoiler Alert. I felt a security through you I haven't felt in a long ass time either.
Spencer: Spencer, my love, we did not get near enough of you.

The Things I Loved
I loved the fact that Savvy didn't go through this huge transformation for Spencer to lover her. He liked her for who she was and loved her along the way. This is something that I don't see often and I truly love it.

The Things I Didn't Love
I feel like I expected more romance, but I am more than happy with the way it turned out. It's safe to say this is what I needed in the moment rather than what I wanted.

The Final Verdict
Do not go into this book expecting a romance novel. That is not what this is. It has aspects of romance to it, but this novel is about a woman’s journey to loving herself.

This book was beautiful. Inspiring, delicious, and funny.  It had the best cast of characters I've seen lately.  Strong female friendships are my favorite and this book delivers. Plus it has a lot if steamy sex, deliciously described food, and an underdog to route for!  Great book.
