This little teaser is honestly fantastic. I felt drawn in and interested immediately and I need to know what happens next. The plot so far is intriguing and the writing easy to read. I’m ready to start this series in earnest!

Annnnd I wasn’t disappointed. This book drew me in very quickly, which is exactly what I needed for this time of year.

I really enjoyed watching the old fan favorite enemies to lovers; Ryon makes a perfect match to Dawsyn. I love her spice and resilience; it’s a wonderful change of pace from your average damsel in distress. I was racing through to see what happened next the entire time they are escaping the Glacians. Let’s not forget the addition of Esra, I was so thrilled to see the representation in this book. All in all a quick, fun, and slightly desperate read. Definitely kept me coming back for more.

Honestly the only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars is the level of cheese we get to. I can appreciate a cheesy love story, but some of the dialogue here was almost a bit painful. Skirting the line between sweet and disgusting reaaaaal close. And also the ending because WHY DO YOU GUYS LEAVE US WITH SCENES LIKE THAT. IF RYON DOESN’T SURVIVE I’M GOING TO THROW SOMETHING. Also those queens are trash and I can’t wait to see them pay for this.

Personally, I’m for smut; this smut could’ve been smuttier though.

Still, read this book. It draws you in fast and doesn’t let go. Even the end makes you need more.

I received an e-ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely loved this book! It’s a beautiful fantasy novel with the perfect amount of smut. I loved that this book has a romance in it but is not lacking plot for the romance (if you know what I mean). I loved the political intrigue (although it was a bit predictable the heroine’s reaction to it was oftentimes unexpected). Our heroine was awesome! She was not one to sit back and let stuff happen; even when sometimes it’d be best if she did! Lol. I cannot wait for the sequel. I love Ryon and Dawsyn’s relationship so much. This book had some diversity but didn’t really focus on it. All the lgbtq+ characters were secondary characters. There was mention of the humans and some of the half human half glacians having darker skin but it didn’t go into much depth. It did kind of feel like diversity for diversity’s sake. I really enjoyed this novel though and finished it in one day.

If you are looking for a quick read that can be an entertaining, mildly spicy romance, you may enjoy this book. If you are looking for a well-developed fantasy with rich characters, I would not recommend this to you.

I read this in a day and enjoyed it, but I also recognized issues with it. I feel like the author was trying to be inclusive with certain characters, but they fell flat or were off putting at times.

The plot and world building have issues if you think about them too much.

I appreciate that the author was going for a strong badass heroine, but the believability of certain scenes was hard for me.

If you don't like Insta-love type romances, then this won't be for you either. I think it was supposed to be somewhat of a slow burn, enemies to lovers romance, but the two characters really wanted each other from the beginning.

The premise of the book was intriguing to me, and I like the videos I've seen from the author on TikTok, which is what got me to order the book.

The twist at the end was very abrupt. I figured there was going to be twist, but it was fast and ended on a cliffhanger. A sequel is planned, and I'm not sure if the author is going for an ACOTAR-type thing where the first love interest isn't the end game or if there's going to be redemption or what. I'm not sure if I want to read the sequel or not. I liked Ryon, but the ending makes me dissatisfied. I hate when romances have miscommunication or lack communication between the lovers.

I would like to thank Angry Robot for providing me with an ARC.

Ledge didn't work for me.  This is a debut book, and it feels like it.  The writing is flowery and feels awkward at times.  There is a lot of telling instead of showing in this book.  There was a lot of information provided about the world in the first part of the book, but I never felt as if I got to know this world.  I feel like the characterizations could use some more work.  The characters felt like the needed to have more development and felt very one dimensional and stereotypical at times. I also felt like the story was being pushed forward by repeated instances of running and arriving to places.  It never felt like there was a real driving force to the plot.

I have a lot of similar issues with this book that other reviewers had.  One of the only black characters, Ryon, in this book is in ways that have racist undertones to them.  He is described in animalistic and beastly ways, especially in comparison to the tiny white main character who is the romantic interest.  He is also referred to as hybrid a lot.  There is also a tokenized gay character in this book who also seems to be written as nonbinary.  Esra was introduced after the main character questioned Esra's gender, “But what do I call you?”  “Call me Esra, call me darling, call me bitch, for all I care,” he says, his hand reaching for hers.  “But never lower me to such mundane names as man or woman.  For the purposes of our impending friendship though, I suppose you can say he when you must, if only for lack of a better word.”  I'm not really sure what the author was intending with this character, but within the rest of the book, Esra is written as the sassy gay friend.  I feel like the author was well intentioned but handled gender very clumsily in this book in regards to Esra and then poorly in other contexts.  There are instances in this book that comes across as being a bit TERFY because gender is being equated to genitals and having a period.

I received an e-arc through Netgalley, ahead of release, in exchange for an honest review.

Content Warnings: Sexual scenes, isolation, loss of loved ones, depression, PTSD, sexual harassment, attempted sexual assault, violence, blood/gore, slavery, torture, racism, and suicidal ideations. Mention of: growing up with limited resources, starvation, sexual assault, rape, suicide, loss of body autonomy, and death due to childbirth.

I loved every second of getting to know Dawsyn and Ryon, two souls that have been hurt so much but still want to fight to create a brighter future. Seeing these two who should be enemies [according to their enemies] slowly get to know one another, empathize with each other, and ultimately fall hard for each other...had me cheering for them, crying for them, and just wanting to give them the biggest hug I can.
Watching these two who should be enemies slowly get to know one another, trust each other, and ultimately fall head over heels for each other...had me cheering for them, crying for them, and wanting to just hug the crap out of them.
With the way, this book ended I have no idea what book two could lead to but I AM READY! I cannot wait to get my hands on whatever comes next!

If you love fantasy books that are unpredictable, fun, and leaves you wondering what could possibly happen next...I highly recommend reading Ledge!
