So. Much. Adorableness. Here.

I am really enjoying the Creative HeArts series, and Willa and Finn are possibly my favorite couple in the group, so when I heard that their book 2 was available? You'd better believe I jumped right on that!

I'm happy to report--it did not disappoint.

Once again we have all kinds of angsty chemistry going on--a forbidden romance (Willa's dad is still dead set against her dating Finn), tons of will-they-or-won't-they drama, awesome secondary characters (as usual!), and so many truly funny moments (the personalized three-weeks-to-the-wedding to-do binders? Just OMG) Gah! I ship these two so hard. Loved every second of this book.

My only complaint?

It took 90+% of the book for the two of them to finally get together--which is fine--but I really, really want me some more Willa and Finn together time. Instead, they come together and wham! Bam! we practically fast forward to the end of the school year and...it's over. I really, really was hoping for a book 3, but it doesn't look as if I'll get one. Sigh. I would have loved to (slightly spoiler-ish comments to follow--skip to the end if you don't want to read them) have seen their talk with Willa's dad, Willa's college admissions drama, and how their senior seminar project turns out (though fingers crossed we'll get more on that from the other series books).

Still, though. Willa and Finn. Can't go wrong. Plus, they're sure to pop in and out of the rest of the series books, so it's all good.

I don't have any background or anything with this series but I decided to pick it up because it sounds really interesting to me. I haven't really read any contemporary romance that features stepsiblings as main characters. I don't know, it just feels a little weird to me, so I try to stay away. So really, I have no idea why this book caught my attention.

Willa's dad is getting married to Finn's mom, Mia McCain, who happened to be a super popular celebrity. I can tell how much controversy and gossip that may stir, so Willa found herself in the middle of them all and it wasn't all pretty.

Willa and Finn have different personalities, yet they complement each other. Their polarities made the story very interesting. I also quite enjoyed the whole "let's-pretend-we-don't-have-feelings-for-each-other-since-we're-going-to-be-practically-siblings-anyway". It was really fun to see the whole thing, romance included, unfold.

It was enjoyable overall, but a little inconsistent in terms of the pacing. Some things I found too cheesy and cliche as well, but it was a good one!

Weddings, Crushes, and Other Dramas is the sixth book in the Creative HeArts series, and the second book in the Finn and Willa trilogy by Emily McKay. I have still not read the fourth or fifth book in the series, but I have read books 1-3. I have said it before and I will say it again, I freakin love the way this series is done. Let me try and break it down for you, because it can be kind of confusing. The Creative HeArts series is all set at the same performing arts high school in Texas. There will be 12 books in the series, and it will center around 4 different couples (at this time anyway). Each of the couples will get their own trilogy, and each trilogy is written by a different author. But the books in the overall Creative HeArts series will rotate through each one of the three couples, so no two sequential books will be about the same two main characters. Get it? I promise it is less confusing once you start reading the books. I really love that they are all set in the same universe and I love that none of their stories are neatly wrapped up at the end of book one. (If you are still confused, check out the goodreads series page HERE which does a good job at explaining it.)

Finn and Willa are my favorite couple in the series so far. I adored How Willa Got Her Groove Back, which was the first book in the Willa and Finn trilogy and I couldn't wait to read Weddings, Crushes, and Other Dramas. It picks up right where How Willa Got Her Groove Back left off, so you do need to read that one first. (You don't necessarily have to read all the other books in the series, but reading them all helps you get a better idea of the world. I need to go back and read books 4 and 5 ASAP. I has the best of intentions to read them in order, but when I saw the second Willa and Finn book, I got a little over excited and jumped the gum. Whoops.)

Weddings, Crushes, and Other Dramas was just as cute and angsty as I was hoping it would be. I loved watching Finn and Willa struggle and deny their feelings for one another, and try and play the part of a good family as they helped their parents get read for their wedding. The only things I didn't like about this book were that Willa was still dating that jerk face and Finn had to witness it for the whole story. And I was also a little sad that the romance between my beloved Willa and Finn took so long to actually come into fruition. There was a how lot of resisting the whole story, which don't get me wrong, I loved, but I wanted to see more of the romance because I love these two together. Alas, I think I will have to wait for their final book before I get what I want. But this was an excellent installment in their story. I want book 3 right now!

Bottom line: Weddings, Crushes, and Other Dramas is a great book for lovers of young adult contemporaries. And if you have not checked out the Creative HeArts series yet, I think you should. Fans of young adult contemporaries will really dig its unique concept and structure. I have been really loving it, and I hope to see more series like it in the future.

Aww, these series is my favorite and the cutest. I want more of the NexteGen crew.

Willa: Busying herself with her stepmother's wedding and writing for the senior seminar web series is hard. But avoiding her feelings for Finn her soon to be stepbrother is harder, especially since he's really quite attractive to the eye. Willa is really trying to avoid her feelings for Finn, but of course, at some point she has to come to terms with her feelings for him. Being thrown together with Finn for her dad's wedding isn't making it any better.

Finn: He's been known as a bit of a player in Willa's mind and he's trying to dispel that. But little does he know that he's fallen for her. Unlike Willa, Finn has come to terms that he's fallen for her and he wants to do everything to show her. But poor oblivious Willa doesn't see it, well more like Denial City. But when she did realize it; it was the cutest thing.

Final Thoughts: This made me want of the NextGen crew and made this one of my favorite and sweet series.

Back at Creative Arts and catching up with Willa and Finn. The wedding is quickly approaching and the tension between Willa and Finn is reaching a tipping point.

I thought this was a fun-cute romance. I remembered Finn from Falling For the Girl Next Door, so I already liked him. This was my first time really encountering Willa and I found her to be the type of geeky-awesome that I love.
"You're wearing a T-shirt with a cartoon of a sloth in a cape. On purpose."

That right there is enough for Willa and I to be BFFF, but she had a lot of other redeeming qualities that made me like her.

This book is told from two POVs - Willa's is in first person, and Finn's is in third. I believe the other Creative Arts books I read was written in the same manner. It's different, but it did not impact my overall impression of the story in any way, as I had the opportunity to get into both Willa's and Finn's heads.

Speaking of Finn. I was so excited that he was the one who was all in and wearing his heart on his sleeve. As I mentioned before, I already liked him, so with this book, I kinda started to love him. He was flawed, but he owned it, and who doesn't love a reformed playboy. There was this part, towards the end, where he more or less is pouring his heart out, and I loved each and every second of it. I swear, the smile on my face was so big, I was bordering on deranged.
That version of Finn just might be my perfect guy. And that wasn't just confusing. That was terrifying.

The push and pull was so strong in this one. Just when I thought it was never going to happen, they finally kissed. I mean, I was faaaaar into the story when it finally happened. I believe I threw my fist in the air as a sort of celebration for those two.
I raise my fingers to my lips, but I'm not sure if I'm trying to wipe the kiss away, or press it deeper into my skin so that I'll never lose it.

The epilogue made me so happy. It was more of the sweet-cute-adorable that I loved throughout the story. It gave me some closure, and I really appreciated that I was gifted with it.

Overall: Supercute and adorable romance between two likable characters.

Enjoyed this if only to see Willa mature (a little bit) and also gain a bit of self-esteem. What's with all the main characters not having any self esteem though? You never read a male character in these books with a hard time believing they aren't interesting enough, pretty enough, cool enough for the girl. Urgh

Seriously swoony! I loved Finn in How Willa Got Her Groove Back, but he's gotten even better over the course of Weddings, Crushes, and Other Dramas if that's possible. Also love the allusions to books and pop culture, including Mr. Darcy and the movie versions of Pride & Prejudice, and I loved the inevitability of the conclusion. It's not predictable, it's just that imagining something happening other than what does would be negative for everyone involved.

Damien is, if it's possible, even more of a douchebag (and I don't say that lightly) than he was in the first book, and Mariely is the best friend that Willa could ask for. Seriously. I wish she was my friend. Finally, maybe the best thing about this book is how Emily McKay balances the swoony aspects with moments that are seriously funny. By doing so, she ensures that nothing becomes saccharine sweet - just perfect.

If you love contemporary romance, P&P retellings, and web series, then you need to read this one.
