So….that was amazing. Me and my dad have a deal where I read the book and then we watch the movie. He said the movie is comedy. So when I read the book and my heart was being ripped out, I was surprised. The story is a novel it builds the characters, feeling, action and suspense. It was amazingly paced (fast yet slow, easy to read though). The ending was a bit more rushed than most of the story, still amazing. I loved the view of the son reading it and being so in love with the book.
In the end when he makes his own ending I thought I wouldn’t like it. I like when it’s on a cliffhanger so you can imagine your own ending. But he beautifully put the story with amazing view of what happens. The way the relationships got developed and I loved it.
Thank you to everyone who made this beautiful piece of art.

I tried reading this book a long time ago, sometime at the beginning of the year, and I just couldnt do it. I cant even rate this book bc of how quickly it took me to put it down. I wanted to read it mainly because I loved the movie so much, which maybe that was my first mistake, but I just really didnt like the narrator in this story constantly breaking my immersion to go off on tangents about his personal life/personal experience with rewriting the thing when it really didnt feel like it enhanced or reinforced the story at all. It felt like there were two completely different stories going on at once and it was immensely frustrating for me.
When the book was actually focused on the characters, I enjoyed it. But I just couldnt focus and get immersed when the narrator was barging in every couple pages to go on and on about some meta “story within a story” thing. Idk. It just wasnt what I thought I was getting into and it kinda made the experience extremely annoying for me. I’m sure without that theres the story everyone else sees. But I just couldnt get past the constant interruptions where the story came to a halt for the narrator to insert commentary that I feel like it could’ve been better off without.

This one was kind of a let-down. First of all, the story-outside-the-story wasn't as good as the one with Columbo and Fred Savage in the movie. That may seem like a minor detail if you've only seen the movie, but the story-outside-the-story takes up a lot more time in the novel. Secondly, and I'm wary of listing this as a fault, the movie, as it turns out, is a pretty literal adaptation of the novel (there are pages of dialog that are lifted word-for-word, guess that's what you get when the author does the screenplay). Generally, I like it when movies don't veer from the novel, but when you see the movie first, it tends to ruin the book (I say this and I'm someone who often reads the end of a novel first!). The characters that Mandy Patinkin, Christopher Guest, and Wallace Shawn bring to life on the big screen don't work as well on the page.

I'm not sure if I'd feel differently if I'd first read the book then saw the movie. My recommendation: skip the novel. The movie is a classic, and it's all you need to enjoy this story.

For all it's hype, I just couldn't get into it. The unnecessarily long explanation about why Goldman felt the need to write the book just sapped my motivation to read it. Personally too, there was a lot on my plate at the moment; maybe I'll pick it up again later.

So far, though, the writing is humorous and entertaining; it was especially interesting reading the parts that were not shown in the movie. I'll come back to this someday.

The Princess Bride by #WilliamGoldman is an exciting story with action, fights, fencing, danger, and true love.

I only watched the movie when I was younger, and I thought why not actually read the book? And boy was I not disappointed. The book was such a wacky one, it delved deeper into the relationships of the characters, why they thought what they thought, and how they came to grow as a person. I better understood all of my favorites and the author even included an afterwards with the four. The book is full of elements of satire, and neck deep in jokes. I never knew that the lovable characters like, Westley, Inigo, and Fezzik could get even cooler, but the book proved me wrong. I was screaming while I read it!! So good!!!

I think a critique of mine would be the beginning preface, I was expecting to be thrust right away into the life of Westley and Buttercup but a big chunk of the beginning of the book was not that. But the problem was solved by just skipping to the first pages.

I would recommend this book to anyone who needs a little laugh in their life.
