This rocked, having had a major interest in translation and modern language through college, I absolutely adored this book and wish it had been longer. Also the undertones of

This is absolutely fantastic historical fantasy. I love that the introduction of this magic system doesn't have to change the real life structures that allowed Britain's world power status. I love that this story avoids the typical historical fiction nitpick of "well why didn't they stop X atrocity" by simply saying "why didn't the British stop it in real life?" 

Fantastic characters, fantastic story, fantastic magic system, fantastic book. Give me 5 more a botched HBO series. 5.75 stars.
