4.2 AVERAGE

Another lovely Alice Oseman book :)
She really captures youngsters, and tackles complex and heavy topics in a brilliant way. Even though it can be a little YA-y (maybe because it is), and things always turn out okay in the end. It's still very pleasant to read :) Heartbreaking, and heartwarming.

Whooshed through it in one day, when I should have been studying for my exams- doh! ;)

FOK OFF

Another relatable YA novel in the Oseman verse.
I was reading this as I was going on long walks, preparing for the 100 km trek in August 2022.
It was nice to be transported to a different reality in which there was another different reality.

I'm writing this review way too many months later so I can't really elaborate on the nuances anymore. I just felt that it was so relatable that a person might not be fit for (higher) education. That university is made up to be this grand thing, and then reality is... well, not everyone is cut out for it.

It's funny how you end up relating to an 18 year old in your 30s but I distinctly remember having to fight for my want to "not want to go to university" (and to go to art school instead!) - the irony that I then was starting university *again* for the bazillionth time, that September after reading this book. This story rightfully tells the audience there is more to life than good grades, and trust me, there is. Especially the comradery of peers, a person's chosen family being a much stronger support network when family is unable to see what you really need... it was very strong and heartwarming.

I liked how the narrator told us that it wasn't a love story between the two main characters, but then it still ended up to be about their relationship a lot. I liked how there were these multiple layers of a character, a character's art, the connection between the characters all together... it's definitely relatable to what I did and shared on the internet as a teenager. Obviously at that time I had no idea what a podcast was, but, I bet if they had existed I might have tried to make one just as complicated.

Some of the events seemed a bit unrealistic but that's why I sort of classify it as a 'fantasy' novel in my head. There's a few hints to other events in the Oseman verse here and there, but this is one that really stands on its own and I really liked how it progressed more outside of the high school setting. It was interesting to join in on an interview with Oxbridge as I have obviously never gotten to that stage and probably never will.

All in all I hope this book can be a bit of a comfort to those going through the agony of finishing high school and starting higher education.

Found this image in another review and I love it, so:

Radio Silence at Pride

YES EVERYONE IN THIS BOOK IS QUEER

I expected a lot from this book since it was much recommended on Booktok.
The plot is very interesting and I really like the relationship between the two main characters - Frances and Aled. As a undergrad student I know how uni can be a lot and how hard it is to keep in touch with your friends, specially when you're struggling mentally and you feel like a burden, so I did relate a lot to Aled. The part where they go "rescue" him made me emotional, but also very happy. I wish everybody had friends like that.
The story also made me want to know more storytelling podcasts, so I'm open to recommendations!
I just didn't rate it 5 stars because I felt like the author took to long to get somewhere so sometimes it was a little bit boring. But it's a great book on friendship and self-discovery.

I loved the story I finished it in 2 days I loved it!!!❤️

a little bit long, but still wonderful. super different from the other oseman i’ve read. a great audiobook listen :)
