This one was a sort of continuation of the last book Maigret Defends Himself #63. Featuring both Manuel and Aline who were in the last book. There are some recurring characters but mostly members of the Police and friends of the Maigret's. This is the first time I have noticed continuity in a Maigret novel.

It was a great story and when the reveal was made I felt stupid forgetting about a character. The plot is a very interesting one in which two cases are solved.

this is my first Maigret. I liked the beginning of the book but found it dragged towards the end.

An ageing, disabled mobster who may be connected to a series of jewellery heists is killed in his apartment building—a building that no one was seen entering or leaving. Whodunnit? This is a bit of classic detective fiction, and Georges Simenon knows exactly what his readership is looking for. Brisk and light, for me Maigret Bides His Time was enlivened by the fact that for a time I lived in the Parisian neighbourhood in which  it's set.

One of the things I have always enjoyed about Simenon's stories about Chief Inspector Maigret is the steady pace and speed with which the mystery is revealed and solved. No need for sudden drama or melodramatic denouements. Step-by-step Maigret investigates adding details, asking the relevant questions, sending his trusted Inspectors out to find him the information he requires in order to out the pieces together. I want to be clear, by steady I do not mean boring. I mean that it's not action packed and, for me, that's a good thing because Simenon can write engaging stories and characters without needing to resort to cheap thrills to get me to turn the pages.

I won't say much about the story-line itself; there's a murder, Maigret solves it, taking the reader with him as he works through the clues, the interviews, the re-interviews. As always, a well-crafted and thought out novel by Simenon.

Maigret’s Patience or better yet Maigret’s Lack of Patience or better yet My Lack of Patience With Maigret’s Patience. Not a winner for me. Convoluted story with too many characters and an uncharacteristically, inexplicably mean Maigret.

From IMDb:
Maigret's sneaking affection for a paralyzed criminal Manuel Palmari propels him to pursue his murderer despite the mastermind's involvement in a current jewel robbery.
