I wasn’t a huge fan of the first book, so it’s not surprising I’m not a huge fan of this one.

Love the first book, but I’ve deeply feel this book was not needed. It was interesting in the first half but then slowly it just becomes non-interesting if you can put it like that. like certain things come out of nowhere that we’re not touched on and never mentioned but are now being mentioned versus in the first one they foreshadowed or you have least met or knew the person that did it versus in this book. Everything just seems like a left field from the people who did it and then the situation that happened.
I really enjoyed this sequel to Chasing the Boogeyman! The story immediately sucked me in and I finished this very quickly. It was just so addictive to read! Once again, the author hits the mark perfectly of this actually feeling like a memoir, while being mostly fiction. Because this is set in current day, this book doesn’t have the coming of age aspects I loved about the first novel, but the (fake) true crime vibes were suspenseful and sometimes scary enough to make me love the story. I will say I think Chizmar mentioned ”my friend Stephen King“ a few times too often, like, we KNOW dude.
I really like how the author writes a story, and I can’t wait for more releases from him!

I enjoyed this one a lot. If you liked Chasing the Boogeyman, then you will definitely like this one, too. Like in Chasing the Boogeyman, Chizmar blends true crime with fiction in a fun way, as he is the main character in the novel and many events he describes actually happened. There are a few unsettling moments in this. As someone who hates that feeling that I’m being watched, some of the scares got to me. I wouldn’t quite call this horror but there are definitely some horror elements here along with the true crime format (true crime is horrific as it is!). Thanks to Gallery Books, Richard Chizmar, and NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
