The first book in this series threw me for a loop. I knew it was fiction, but the level of detail in the meta- components really had me going. Which is to say I was ready for it, this time around. Still, it was so well done. First off, there is the thrill of enjoying a well-crafted, gruesome true-crime story, but all the suffering is fictitious. That is maybe the most brilliant part, the way that this story looks at the genre of true crime and what it means to be so obsessed with it, while gleefully indulging in all the tawdry, sensationalist tropes of the genre. Additionally, the biggest difficult in most sequels is why these things keep happening to the same person, and that is an even bigger question going in to this story, seeing as how it is a barely-fictionalized version of the author and his family at the center of the maelstrom. The logic and reasoning for Chizmar being in the middle of another killing spree all works. Parts of it do stretch the imagination, sure, but that's where the salacious nature of the genre comes in. Ultimately, what it came down to was that this novel was a lot of fun. The meta- elements all worked, even the sentimental, bordering-sappy, inter-chapter digressions quoting from Chizmar's fictionalized-memoir, and every time I put the book down I wanted to pick it up again right away.

The absolutely stellar sequel to *Chasing The Boogeyman*.
Chizmar has somehow done it again. Another incredibly engaging "True"-Crime story taking place in his home town. The characters and storylines that Chizmar weaves, while simultaneously making you question what is Fact and what is Fiction is nothing short of magical.
Can not recommend this book (and series) highly enough.
Really hope we get a third book
It's Time.
