What I disliked most about the book were not the stories.
     It wasn't the gore.
     It even wasn't the part where the Spoiler
cat died
.
It was the way the poems were written, badly.
Not really poems.
     But exactly like the stories, except the writer hit the return button
     one too many times.
Just to make the stories look more artistic. More like poems.
We all know that Palahniuk can write wonderful books.
     This wasn't one of them.

I DID NOT like this book. But man it was well written, VERY disturbing and sickening as hell. I was nauseous a lot of the time reading it.

I’m giving it 4 stars because I hated it, but I hated it for the right reasons...it’s a really disgusting, scary, horror book.

As grotesque and vile as the content of this book is, I was really surprised at how genuine and heartfelt the messaging behind it is. This is not just a book about terrible people doing disgusting things to themselves and each other, it's a powerful cautionary tale about unchecked self-pity, our obsession with tragedy and violence, and what happens when you allow your trauma to control your life. I think every creative should read this, especially writers
