What a book…
Haunted managed to start off with a story that made my stomach churn to the point where I had to put it down… but the rest of it I throughly enjoyed.
The story’s are dark, the characters are completely awful enjoyable people, and the circumstances they’re in are miserable. I enjoyed the authors ability to insert humor and absurdity into the long drags of misery I’d catch myself laughing here and there and get jerked right back into horror within the next paragraph. Reading the most unhinged parts out loud to my partner after a long day was absolutely great bonding experience.
I’d like to read more of Chuck’s work.

This was really quite a disappointment, after the highs of Invisible Monsters and Survivor. It really felt like Chuck had lost his direction, so written what he thought was expected of him, which to me is the antithesis of regular Chuck. This book falls into the brain candy/travel reading category, which is no place for a Palahniuk.
Four stars only because it disturbed me so much. Horrifying.
