This was a fast read for me. I loved the format of short stories within a bigger plot. The various scenes described ranged from repulsive to humorous. Even some of the repulsive were humorous, ie
Spoiler "I fainted...and you ate my ass?" haha
I would definitely read it again!

there were definite times where I had to put the book down in fear of vomiting. the first chapter to be exact. this book was a whole new level of insanity. there were parts I was captivated by and other parts where I wanted to gauge my eyes out. the overall messaging, though highly apparent, was very insightful and an interesting thought process for chuck to incorporate.
dark tense medium-paced

Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I don't really know how to review this, because I was lost most of the time while reading it. I couldn't keep track of the characters (all nicknames), I didn't understand the plot that wound through the short stories or where it was going, and I got really confused with the name of the cat that was also the name of the agent in one of the stories, so, was the cat named after the agent? I dunno. Many of the short stories were quite good, but the rest was a mess and I didn't really get what happened.

Ehhh. I was badgered into reading this.

The stories are alright, several are memorable. But it's not actually scary. It's a 'people are horrible' and 'let me describe intestines' book. He tries to be horrifying by giving all the details- which is the problem. Horror is about what's left out, what we imagine. This is just pithy social comedy mixed with gore.

It is, however, extremely well written, so feel free to give it a try. Just get it from the library.

This just wasn’t for me. I thought the setup was interesting with a series of vignettes by/for each of the characters involved in the main story, but most of the stories had a similar theme and tone and seemed to just attempt to gross-out the reader more and more with each tale. I got about halfway through and just became bored with it all.

I guess the tiktok girlies can’t be right every time.
