A treatise on growing old. I have complex feelings on this piece. I spent most of it despising her. I wish however that we didn’t treat death or murder as the worst thing that could happen to someone.

I liked this one! The narrator is a strange old Polish woman who insists that the string of murders happening in her remote village are perpetuated by animals taking revenge on the hunters. I'd say it's more of a character study than a true murder mystery, which is fine by me because I enjoyed the main character.
def got stuck in the middle for a bit & dgaf abt the plot but far more importantly than those things, this is a voice that never exhausts itself & there are so many prismatic little observations of people and land and time that i could see this being rereadable, regardless of how compelling the justice/mystery elements are or are not........... obv im on board w animals as people, kin, etc and fuck those human victims but the stakes stayed fairly mellow throughout. overall—delight!
