First, I thought it was a murder mystery, bu then I found out it was an alternate history cold war thriller. Not exactly my cup of tea, but it is expertly written by Hadfield, an ex-astronaut himself.
The story is amusing but takes too long. The parts about what happens on the Russian side are not interesting and drag the story a bit.
The final third of the book focuses on two evil characters, the main character of the book is on the side-line and doesn't play a big part in the conclusion which is an odd choice and makes you far less invested in the ending.

At first this book took me a long while to get into. I was somewhat bogged down by the many characters, events, and the technical science. So glad I kept going though because I very much enjoyed this space adventure! While it wasn’t maybe as mysterious as I thought it was going to be, the plot was still gripping. I think the actual science (from the real life astronaut author) made it feel like an adventure that plausibly could have happened which kept me wanting to find out what happens! Also shout out to the audiobook narrator, Ray Porter, always a stellar (pun intended) job!

I really enjoyed this one!
The space action was exactly what I was looking for.
Kaz is kind of our main character but there are so many characters we follow. And so many plot lines that are simultaneously running. Which makes it a very well rounded story.
Once the astronauts are in space, the action starts and it doesn’t stop! There is a lot of intrigue and mystery that go along with the Russian’s also having a presence in space and some curious questions about certain Americans as well.
