TBH I was kind of disappointed in this book. I wish it had been longer and delved more into the backstory of the vampire. The connection between the two main characters (vampire and human) seemed unfinished, and almost random. Plus, to me, the ending didn't really fit.

Kind of dark and disturbing and very sad, but I liked the storylines connecting.
More Vampire liftfic please! I would say this one is 4.5 stars from me!
I really enjoyed Thirst. The two halves of the story felt so different, with the beginning being so gothic and gory, while the second half so real, desperate, and devastating. But despite the appearances, the two characters’ stories were very much the same at their core with their frustrations with grief and sexuality. They each held such mourning—one for the sisters she had lost so long ago and the other for the mother she was so close to losing—and such longing to find someone they could be with truthfully, wholly.
Vampires are typically depicted as creatures of death and sexuality, the two elements interwoven in a way that feels real only to fantasy, but that isn’t necessarily true, and it was interesting seeing those mixed elements embodied in a real world example through our second main character and her troubles with her own sexuality, as well as the loss she is dealing with. It was even more enticing how the vampire, who for centuries longed for a companion without even truly realizing it, could sense these same feelings in Alma without even speaking with her.
My only complaint would be because of the nature of the two stories, the second story felt a bit slow compared to the first half, so I wonder if this one might have been faster paced if they chapters had alternated POVs instead.
Thank you to Dutton and NetGalley for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

i saw the words "lesbian" and "vampire" describing this book and I wanted so badly to enjoy reading it but i just don't think it's for me... it took me several weeks just to read 25% and i find myself not wanting to pick this back up so i'm going to leave it at DNF :(

I feel like I really only needed half of this book. The point of view change didn't do a whole lot for me, but also I don't want to discredit it in case (since I know it was translated) different cultures have different, common narrative structures that I haven't been exposed to before. I was really intrigued the first half; putting a vampire in a pandemic is a really interesting situation, and I liked the betrayal she faced at the hands of the doctor after killing his brother . When it switched to the modern day, everything fell kind of flat. I didn't feel like the new narrator had much in terms of a foil to the vampire, and while I like the ending of she needs the vampire's help to put her mother to rest , it took a while to get there and they didn't have much of a relationship after that.
This would have been a 5 star read for me but i unfortunately didn’t connect with second half of the book at all. I couldn’t put the book down in part 1 with the vampires pov but once the pov switched the book went downhill for me.
