Mixed feelings about this one. Overall, I actually liked the story, even though some parts felt a bit off to me; the trio calling Draco Malfoy, "Draco" will never not be funny to me, although it's worth noting that it HAS been almost 20 years since they graduated... it'd make sense that the animosity would have worn off. I think people keep forgetting that it's not actually the eighth story (wrong move, marketing dept), plus the fact that this is a SCRIPT for a PLAY. Of course the reading experience will be different, and will not feel as satisfying as actually reading a novel. Other than that, enjoyed meeting these beloved characters as adults with freaking CHILDREN. Note: Scorpius Malfoy is definitely my favorite. For TLDR: I, for one, am mostly just really glad to be back to this world.
I don't do many reviews but this one I have to. I know some people hate this ,but I love this play write. It did feel a little weird ,I still can't put my finger on it but I did love the story. Harry Potter son Albus was at times annoying but I loved that he end up in the house he's in and Scorpius is my favorite out of the main characters, he's everything that is opposite of his father which I really liked. I enjoyed Draco teaming up with the gang . Snape returning was my favorite part . My hatred to Umbridge has increased. This book is for those like me who won't let Harry's story go because it's a part of our (my) childhood and this is a great story to do just that .
Don't love it, don't hate it, but doesn't really need to exist.
(I received this as a review copy from the publisher, but it had no impact on my honest review).
I tried to keep my expectations low for this, because i wasn't sure if i would enjoy reading a script book of a play as much as an actual novel. I did have several issues with the plot of Cursed Child, but overall i did enjoy it and I'm rating it 4 out of 5 stars!
The script book definitely could not capture all the emotion and description that probably had been delivered in the actual performance, but for a 330-paged script it did well enough to deliver the plot and personality of the characters. It only took me 2 days to finish since it was full of script, and it wasn't difficult to get used to the script writing style.
I didn't quite like the general plot of the story. It was definitely clever to centre it all around time traveling and a new prophecy, but it still didn't feel quite like something JK Rowling would write if she had continued the series by herself. I couldn't quite grasp the idea of the Cursed Child existing, because it did not seem in line with the original Harry Potter series(SPOILER:).
It was also kinda strange to see Hermione as Minister for Magic and Harry as the head of Magical Law Enforcement. I guess it's just generally strange to read about their lives outside of Hogwarts, but it's also great to know what all the main characters are doing now. I wish we could have seen more of the Weasleys!
I absolutely love all of the main characters! Scorpius is such an entertaining kid, i found myself actually laughing at some of his jokes. Draco was great too, i love how he gets to say more and how much he had developed. And Ron! Ron is Hilarious Ron as usual, and i loved the Ron/Hermione moments in this! Harry's troubles in being a good father to Albus really broke my heart. It did make a lot of sense that he wouldn't know exactly how to approach his second son, who had turned out differently compared to the rest of his kids. And then there's the touching conversation between Dumbledores' portrait and Harry -- that was quite emotional.
It's a little hard for me to take HP and the Cursed Child seriously as a continuing story of the original series, but i still enjoyed reading it as a possible one. I definitely hope to be able to see the play in real life one day. I can't imagine how magical it would be with all the magical effects and the emotional performance by the actors.

Voldemort and Bellatrix having a child?? What?? Wouldn't someone have noticed the 9-month pregnancy??It was also kinda strange to see Hermione as Minister for Magic and Harry as the head of Magical Law Enforcement. The potential was really there, and I loved the new characters, but I was sad because of how brief a time I had to get to know them. The ending was absolutely predictable and a huge let down, and kinda left a bad impression
It reads like a fan fic….
I didn’t really recognize the characters. A lot of crying?
Ron and Draco were basically different people.
And there were too many references to the original series adding in mess when it ended so cleanly.
I really did not like it.
But the main boys were cute and I liked their friendship

I didn't really know what to expect but I had seen many bad reviews and so my expectations weren't too high. But I honestly enjoyed this a lot. I read it in one go and it was such a flash of nostalgia and it was really nice reading about those characters again. I really liked Scorpius and Albus and whilst the writing "style" was far from amazing the story itself did really touch me and I am glad I finally read this book 🤗🌸👍🏻
