How is this even considered canon? It is like a bad fan fiction written by a twelve years old.

It was great to be back in the wonderful, wicked world of Harry Potter!

I have been able to stay away from much of the hype around this one, and so did not know quite what to expect. To my delight, it turns out to be a rather moving story of the complicated love between fathers and sons. Above all it is about the difficulty of growing up in the shadow of a famous parent, to prove yourself, not to the parent and to others, but to yourself, that you are good enough just as you are. It doesn't help, of course, that during that struggle, you also
Spoilerbump into the child (!!!) of He Who Must Not Be Named! I must admit that I did not see that one coming, although I did figure out who that child was long before the others did. In this matter, I believe Harry was a bit blinded by old prejudice; it would certainly have been both expected and convenient if it had been Scorpio, continuing the long history of animosity between the two families. Btw, I love it that Scorpio and Albus changes that! An endearingly odd pair of friends, if ever there was.

I had forgotten how many mistakes Harry made during the long fight against Voldemort, and how temperemental he can be; that he is indeed a somewhat flawed hero, which makes him even more endearing. Albus certainly is his father's son in that respect; not so much a hero, perhaps (what is a hero anyway?), as a reckless boy who makes mistakes, messing things up considerably, and yet in the end proves himself as being quite able to handle his own mess. Not on his own, mind you, but then again, Harry always did get help.

Many characters
Spoilerboth good and evil
turns up again in this story. Some of them
Spoilerin different shapes throughout the story, such as Hermione in the alternative realites; I found it very interesting that she turns out to be quite mean in one of them. The different Hermioneses provided an interesting and touching take on her and Ron's love for each other.
I missed many of my favourites, though, but alas, it was to be expected.

I loved that this story also is about
Spoilerthe many complications of time travelling, something which intrigues me. It is not to be taken lightly, and as "proven" here, even with the best intentions, you cannot change history without consequences. Oh, and in that respect, let me say how incredibly touched I was when Draco, of all people, turns out to have kept a highly illegal Time Turner, longing desperately to get to spend just one more minute with his late wife, yet choosing not to use it for that purpose. I think most of us could relate to that longing, and I am not sure if I would have been able to resist...

Again; so happy to be back in Potter world! Can we have some more, please, Ms Rowling? :)

I would say the only thing I felt off about this book was the villain, I wasn't a huge fan of how that all came about. Everything else I really enjoyed, the friendships and relationships were nicely done and I enjoyed all of the character interactions. I really wish this was a tale about the marauders or someone we don't know too much of. It doesn't quite have the same magical feelings that the original series has, but it can still hold it's own for sure!

Was this consistently as good as the novels?
Of course not.

That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed every page, and I can't wait to see the stage production.

Let's be honest here - scripts don't read nearly as well as they play out, but to those calling this "badly written" you're wrong.

Disagree with the plot by all means, but there is a reason for Jack Thorne's success - he is, simply, a terrific playwright.

I was a huge fan of the original Harry Potter series. I was thrilled to learn of this new addition, a continuation of the story with many of the same beloved characters. I like where J.K. Rowling went with the story and the characters. There were twists at every turn, and I was just as captivated with this book as with the original series. I can't wait to see the play! It will be intense, and I will be interested to see how the bring the magic to the stage.

Ok, like, it's not THAT bad, but I think we as a society have moved passed the need for Harry Potter and all it has brought into this world.

Obviously this is written as a play, so that part threw me off for a bit, but the story was great and it made me feel as if I were young reading the originals all over again. It actually made me want to reread the originals! And now I definitely want to go see the play!
