Evelyn’s story was really interesting, it calls morality, honesty, love, and forgiveness into question. I really wanted to care about Monique’s parts of the story but I just…didn’t.

Wow…this book. Definitely one of my favorites I’ve read in a long time. Evelyn is an incredibly complex character. The book makes that clear and wow, do they deliver on that claim. At the beginning of the book, I struggled to understand the narrator and her importance but was absolutely sold by the end. This book is beautiful and heartbreaking and wonderful. I don’t know if calling it a romance encapsulates the book. It’s absolutely a sapphic story but it’s about love, grief, loss, pride, and pain as well. Would highly recommend , lives up to the hype!

This book surprised me with how much I was sucked into it. At first I was like “eh” because historical fiction isn’t really my thing but like wow. The last 1/3 of this book is such a wild ride. Like every other husband you think it’s finally gonna get better but then it’s like nope!! I don’t know I didn’t expect to be bawling my eyes out at the end. Her and Harry Cameron’s relationship… I love. I love the idea of different types of soulmates. Also like… what a plot twist.
I was bawling my eyes out one minute and then literally turned one page and my eyes were suddenly dry. Like what do you mean that man was her father??? Huh?? Absolutely did not see that coming. Well done. I hate Evelyn for that. And something about him being black man makes it even worse.. like just.. vile…
but overall it was a good book. I think every aspect of the plot was well thought out. The whole biracial dialogue was very… cringey to say the least. But it’s okay. You know what I was gonna say 4.25 for this but just for that I’m taking it down to a 4.0.

This book feels like sitting with a friend you haven’t seen in a long time but still love, and listening to the craziest, most intriguing and interesting story you have ever heard. You’ll be haunted by the wish Evelyn Hugo was a real person from the moment you meet her.
