This is one is a book that will stay with me for a long time. Evelyn is many things, some I see in myself. This book twists your expectations in ways you wouldn’t have guessed. The author makes Evelyn very complex, as she is many things, and at the end of it all…just human.

This book was fucking incredible. It was so powerful and beautifully written. I cried, smiled, and smiled while crying this entire book. This was incredibly hyped, but it was so worth every single recommendation. Possible easiest 5 stars I have ever given. Evelyn’s character was portrayed to be a selfish, manipulative bitch, and although morally wrong, all her actions could be justified. Somehow I hated her and thought she was such a bad person, yet I loved her at the same time. You somehow couldn’t help but fall in love with her and wish her the happy ending that she deserved. This book was so empowering. It was a powerful book about power. This book had so many aspects to explore and I loved every single one. How the media portrays complete bullshit and only care about the money and fame, over the truth; old Hollywood and how fame was in the 50’s; Evelyn as she did everything to climb the ladder of fame, success, money, and power while she realised the only things that truly matters is love and family. This book hinted towards a plot twist from the beginning as to why she wanted Monique and how long it would take to publish the book, this plot twist was incredible. I thought of lots of possible options that it could be, but did not expect that. I loved it. I wish Monique’s character was explored more. We didn’t learn as much about her as I would like, as her chapters were quite short and lacking plot. The ending was beautiful. It was sad, yet happy. It was a perfect bittersweet ending. Evelyn had lost every single person she had ever cared about, and it was beautiful that she could be with them again. I cried at every person she lost. They just kept dying. Harry was my favourite character, and I loved him from the very start. Highly highly highly recommend this book to everyone. So worth the 5 stars.
“People think that intimacy is about sex. But intimacy is about truth. When you realize you can tell someone your truth, when you can show yourself to them, when you stand in front of them bare and their response is 'you're safe with me'- that's intimacy.“
“Never let anyone make you feel ordinary.”
“When you're given an opportunity to change your life, be ready to do whatever it takes to make it happen. The world doesn't give things, you take things.“
“Do yourself a favour and learn to grab life by the balls dear.”

I couldn’t put this book down. Every story was greater than the last, and the juxtaposition of the retelling with the present day added an unexpected but welcome mystery. The book made you feel so deeply for the characters.
