I have several issues with this book. I understand that Anna is probably meant to be non-binary/two-spirit (even though they never actually use either word in the book) but I found the consistent “I’m not like other girls” trope insufferable. She’s 17 but apparently the hardest worker at the whole casino

(and has such strong convictions about this that she clocks Grace out of work when she sees her hanging out in the bar)

and she’s supposedly the only person in the whole tribe who cares about their heritage/legends. Anna is also so mean to seemingly the only person in the whole school who is actually nice to her

complaining that she smells like cat piss and just generally trying to ignore her

Finally, we spend the whole book trying to figure out what happens/ed to Grace only for him to gloss over the actual events

and her rescue in the final few pages.
