Like everyone else of a certain age, I grew up watching the film adaptation, every year when it came on TV. I'd always heard the book was good and went in some different directions. I'd even heard that it was a political allegory. What I discovered is that it's a quite pleasant children's book, and the divergences from the film adaptation are fun to note as you go along. I won't spoil your fun by listing any of them here. I'm sure there are a hundred web sites that line them out in detail.

I'm glad I read The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. It's actually the first of a series of thirteen, I think, installments. I might give the second one a try, just for fun. But I doubt I'll make it through all of them.
