to start I have to say that as with all king from this time, this book is doused in sexism, racism, and fatphobia. that being said I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the novel and (as always) by the time I was halfway through I couldn't put it down. I do enjoy that with all of his books they start at a crawl and slowly ramp up - midway through it's a sprint and continues that way until the very end.

3.5 ⭐️—Curses, Consequences, and Calorie Deficits.
If Thinner teaches you anything, it’s that you should always double-check who you’re running over with your car. Because if they happen to have a vengeful Romani father, well—good luck keeping your pants up.
I’ll be honest, the beginning dragged a bit. The main guy, Billy, is a smug lawyer who gets away with manslaughter, only to find himself shedding pounds faster than a bad New Year’s resolution. At first, I was like, Okay, get to the point. But then, somewhere along the way, the tension actually started creeping in. The weight loss stops being a curiosity and becomes something much darker. How far will this go? Can it be stopped? Should it? And suddenly, I was hooked.
It’s not my favorite King book—some parts could’ve been trimmed (ironic, huh?)—but when it hits, it hits. The curse, the desperation, the eerie inevitability of it all? Chilling. Not quite top-tier King for me, but definitely better than some of his other mid-tier works. A solid 3.5 stars—like a meal that’s not quite satisfying, but still leaves you thinking about it afterward.

I liked this but didn't love it.
The idea is kind of great. Basically a guy who's very overweight gets cursed and starts to become thinner. And there's no stopping it. As the story progresses we learn why, and it gets darker and darker, and basically a revenge tale. I liked it but I also thought the first half was far stronger than the second half. When we got into the mobster helping out main lead, it felt a bit weird and out of nowhere if I'm being honest.
But overall a fun early Stephen King work I enjoyed but didn't love in the end!

Nossa, chatão o livro.
Não me prendeu na história, o protagonista é um porre. A escrita do King também não está tão legal nesse livro. O livro promete algo que não cumpre. Sempre com um pé atrás lendo os livros do "Richard Bachman."
