Was a good book. It was nice learning/understanding about the main character her struggles since the war, learning about how it affected her mental health and life. It hard to read the book, as it took some time to get into it and finish. Very nice to see shona language in the book.

I’m so DUMB and picked this up on sale without realizing it’s third in a series. Stands ok on its own but think I would’ve liked it way more with all the context (felt 3-3.5 on its own so bumped up)

A slow building story, like the previous two in the trilogy, but much darker as Tambudzai's struggles to succeed intensify. Her unreliability as a narrator gives parts of the story a darkly surreal air and make it difficult to distinguish reality from delusion. Ultimately a fascinating story which really delves into the psychological impacts of colonialism.

The embittered (for good reason) character and the themes of colonialism and post-war psychology/culture/trauma were well done, but I maybe missed some context since this is the 3rd in a series. The second person perspective was interesting, too.

One of the saddest books I have ever read. The book felt almost oppressive in a way with the constant sense of dread imbued in every page. There is usually something noble given to the suffering of the poor or specifically African suffering but when it is so close to the US unemployment with the shame of not meeting expectations, I wasn’t able to distance myself from the pain Tambu was feeling. Such a great look at the effects of unemployment and anxiety, self doubt. A novel full of emotion truly.

i was not a big fan. i found it to be quite dull in parts, i considered not finishing. characters, inner life, and setting very well written, action scenes not so much, so at times i literally didn't get what was happening? overall mildly interesting but I wish I had had the force to stop

The use of the second person draws you in very close to Tambudzai's story that is heartbreaking at times. Excellent storytelling. Now I need to go back and read the preceding book, Nervous Conditions.
