Onto the review:
The Twisted Dead is the third book in a series but it can be also read as a standalone - the author does a great job of giving us context without making it feel artificial. I hadn't read the previous two but I had no problem following the story and previous events. Fair warning - there are some major revelations that do not get resolved in this book as they're part of the greater storyline, but it feels as an incentive to read the previous books & go on waiting for the next one.
The main characters are likeable and realistic. There is Keira, the amnesiac medium working as a caretaker of a small village cemetery and her two best friends, Mason, the friendly and caring med student and Zoe, a chaotic entity working in a general store. Other side characters are less fleshed out but I'm assuming other books in the series visit / revisit them and fill them out as needed.
The main plot of this novel involves the reclusive heir of a musty aristocratic family who has a bit of a ghost problem and asks the trio for help. While investigating, Keira and her friends stumble upon terrible answers to bigger questions: who is the mysterious organization set on hunting her, what do they want and how can she stop them?
Great read overall - wouldn't recommend for people who prefer series with episodic plots as the book does leave some unresolved plot threads, but if you're looking for a lighter horror series (more mystery than horror) this might be for you.

The best of the series by far!! I love Keira as a main character, she goes through a lot of growth this book and her abilities are just getting more interesting. Coates has also perfected the ‘group of people all share a single brain cell’ approach with Keira, Mason, and Zoe. Their dynamic and banter are amazing, and I’m eagerly waiting for the next book!
I love this series because I get really engrossed in the spooky adventures that Kiera gets into, and it's difficult for me to stop reading the book. The supporting characters are really great. Zoe is very enjoyable, and I really like Harry. This novel is really well written and everything that Darcy Coates does is truly amazing. This book was a really fun and exciting story about strange things happening. It contained abundant friendship, and I found it highly enjoyable.
I didn’t enjoy this installment as much as the first two. There were issues with pacing, and Zoe’s witty retorts got on my nerves. I did enjoy the ending, however, and will likely continue. I hope the next installment returns to Kindle Unlimited!

I'm having such a wonderful time reading this series. Keira is a great character, and Mason and Zoe are the best. Even Harry is, well, he's a mess, but a character you want to read. He reminds me of Mr. Fischer, one of Bones interns from the tv show Bones. So bleak.
I did write a few notes while reading this book:
page 34 - I've read this in other books as well; where one of the characters has an emotion cross their face but it is gone in a flash. I need to learn how to do this, I usually have a RBF.
page 43 - They need a signal to let the others know someone is coming. Zoe suggests "kakaw!" I love it.
page 139 - Again, an emotion flashes across a face but was gone before the other could properly see it.
page 203 - My favorite quote of the book. "Do you kill one person tosave many, or do you let the train go clatter-c;atter-splatter-splatter?" -Zoe
So, I am all caught up right now in this series and I can't wait for the next in the series.
