Dang…one of the better memoirs I read in a bit. Safiya’s writing is absolutely beautiful. Her poetic tone carries throughout this whole book, so though I had the hard copy, I loved listening to it as she read it with the pacing of a poem. It was just a truly beautiful memoir. I did learn so much about the rasta community and the way they practice this religion. She wrote this from a place of reflection and fairness without malice, though she had the right to be so angry and sour. It was a story about forgiveness, understanding, and being brave enough to leave a situation that is harmful.
