My friend was the one that guided me towards reading this book and I haven't been able to put any of these dark romance books down! I have literally been reading Rosa Lee every.single.day.

I knew from the moment i read the infamous *Disclaimer at the beginning I would not be able to put it down.

Tarnished Embers has spiciness, destruction, trauma and unconditional love.
- Always remember to read trigger warnings before reading!

These characters had me feeling so many types of ways , i didn't even know what to do with myself!

Ember lost her mother and all of a sudden has a new stepmother and four hot, mysterious step-brothers that from the moment they laid eyes on her looked like they wanted to devour her. In this cinderella retelling you already know the stepmother is going to be an evil c**t but these wicked step brothers* (not stepsisters) are wicked in a completely different way (SPICY). These guys have the type of dark pasts / life stories that make your heart break for them and as you get to be apart of embers story, your heart breaks for her.

Ember and her boys ( Prince, Caspian, Oct and Kit) are just made for eachother and you get to find that out very quickly (;

With all the twist and turns, smut, darkness I just did not want to put it down.

Read it for yourself and see what you think! ( If you like dark romance and very intense kinks (; )

Very rushed storyline, poor writing and just overall not a fan

dark emotional medium-paced

Super spicy, reverse harem, Cinderella inspired

Great read.

This was a bit and compelling read. I loved the insta-love between Ember and her guys and their devotion to her and each other was so heart-warming, after all they'd been through.
Intrigued by Iris's story.

Fuck. My. Life. Only I would get cursed with four hot-as-hell stepbrothers. Fate clearly thinks that she’s a funny bitch. Well, I’ll be sending her the bill when my vibrator breaks from all the overuse it’ll be getting from now on.

Immediate thoughts:
Man, these guys... I love that they all have their own nickname for Ember.
They are obsessed and possesive of Ember, but they also really care for and protect her, like no one else has - it was sort of sweet (even if they also acting deranged and unhinged at times).

Tropes:
Why choose, dark, stepbrothers, forced proximity, forbidden, found family, touch her and die, Cinderella inspired retelling.

ARC review:
This book instantly hooked me. I mean, imagine coming home one day and being told you not only have a new stepmom but also four new stepbrothers, who apparently are obsessed with you, but you know nothing about them… That was the premise for this story, and then add in secrets and intrigue, a lot of attraction/chemistry, delicious spice and the whole forced proximity of the situation that leaves no choice except to eventually give in.

It had everything; wonderful characters, a solid plot and a lot of spice. The guys each have their own past and have their own bond with Ember - the individual nicknames is just the icing on the cake. Ember is such a lovely character; she is determined to fight for her freedom and actually live her life. She is not a strong badass sort of woman, more like she finally allows herself to give in and hand over the control to the guys. This in turn gives her power, and it’s not like she’s a naïve innocent woman, which I just loved!

The character growth and the way they grew so close throughout while also dealing with their traumas was beautiful. They all clearly have strong connections, and was clearly meant to be each other’s - the support, respect, love, trust, help, they really became a family that healed together. It didn’t put a stop to the spice, however, which was abundant, but so delicious. The story itself also revolved around a plot filled with some shocking revelations, and I really went through all the emotions reading.

Okay, okay, okay. I’m gonna be honest, I was confused halfway through this bc I imagined Ember to be like 19 in college (as in getting a bachelor’s) but still with her dad and then suddenly realizing College did not in fact mean what I thought and it actually meant high school made me ick a little. That whole thing threw me off and if I continue to be honest, I just imagined it as her still being 19 and done with high school for my sake.

That being said, not a lot of plot but interesting nonetheless. I was definitely jaw on the floor at some of the scenes with her step brothers and I will say, I love me a good why-choose where the guys are also together with each other

If Rosa Lee writes it, I’m gonna eat it up.

Tarnished Embers was FANTASTIC. We get another softer FMC like in Tainted Saints, that makes your heart just break for her.

Her guys were a bit different than Rosa’s normal as well. These are not your experienced criminal types. These are abused guys who are just confused and trying to survive. Ember comes into their lives and changes everything, but even that comes with its marks that leave trauma behind.

This is a dark and HEAVY story check the triggers!!!

The spice in this was absolutely delicious.

Even as dark as this book gets, we still have our sweet insta love/lust/she’s ours relationship that is EVERYTHING. But you’ll want to cry, scream, and throw whatever you’re reading this book on for all they have to go through to get their happy ending.

Also, props to Rosa Lee for how she handled the mental health aspect of our FMC, Ember.

We’re hovering between 0-1 stars here. I love a stepbrother romance anyday and I get this was a Cinderella retelling but this wasn’t it.

Spicy

I would say 5 stars for spice and 3 on the plot. It is a very loose retelling of Cinderella with a stepmother so abusive that it was hard to believe.

DNF (ish I skimmed) at 62%. It was a nice spicy little thriller and then it devolved just past halfway into something I had NO interest in. I get that the hints were there but I didn't need the book to go full bore into something I could have just had the hints of and been fine. Plus I don't like my plot dragged out to the degree this was once it got going.

It's a shame because Ember, Cas, Prince, Kit and Oct were a nice spicy family that I enjoyed.
