Another must read!!

This one tugged on my heartstrings big time! Lucy deserved a happily ever after, and Benji is a total perfect package!! Then you have Angie who steals many scenes! I just love all the characters in this world!!

It’s frustrating that religion has become so prominent in the last few books of this series.

HELP!!!! I need more stars. Five isn't even close to enough. I absolutely love everything that Toni has written. She has out done herself with Rushing the Goal. She has left me with many nights in my future where I dream of Benji.
Rushing the Goal is part of the Assassins Series about a Nashville Hockey team. Although every book can be read as a standalone the book packs more oomph if you know the secondary characters.
Case in point--Lucy. She is a very bitter, unhappy woman. Her only reason for being is Angie, a cute little girl that calls her mommy. Don't get me wrong, she has very good reasons for her bitterness, her anger, her lack of trust.
She is also the sister for three NHL brothers. Her brother Jayden plays for the assassins. They have been a big influence on Angie. She plays on a girls hockey team sponsored by the Assassins and coached by Shea Adler, retired Assassin Captain. When Jayden can't help the girls team he calls his fellow player, Benji, to take his place.
The best thing to ever happen to Lucy is meeting Benji. He knows what to say. He knows what to do. He knows how to act. He knows how to protect the ones he loves. He knows how to rush a goal on the ice and how to get the goal in life. He definitely knows how to get my heart pumping. (I just realized this would be a great how to manual on How to Get a Woman, or How to be a Real Men.
Lucy is so lucky to have Benji in her life even if she doesn't think she needs or wants him. She is definitely skittish. If anyone deserves a happily ever after it is Lucy. Benji is the man to give it to her and Angie. He will slay the dragon (ex husband, douchebag). He will rescue the princess (even if Lucy doesn't think she needs it).
The journey, the adventure, the love story is ingrained in my heart. A love story most girls can only dream of.

8/6/2019 the audiobook is very good. I laughed so hard at times I think I should have chosen a different book for my six hour drive.

I have loved Lucy for a long time. Loved her sass with her brothers. I was so excited to see she was getting a book and not only that it was with Benji! Benji was my geek. I wanted so much for him to have a happy ending. And boy did I get it with Lucy and Benji. My daughter also has ADHD, and I had to laugh at Lucy's "Crazy" because I use similar words. Although I had hoped that Lucy's husband got his just desserts I am happy that he is out of their lives and Lucy got her HEA. (P.s. I Have read this book more than 3 times and had not posted a review before)

I hate feeling like a broken record and I feel like I have been broken for sometime, saying the same thing over and over again. “It was a good book. The guy was perfection. The girl, however, was just too standoffish and headstrong about her independence.” That is all I feel like I am saying anymore and it makes me sad. I want a guy who is willing to bend over backwards for his girl and rearrange the whole world so that she can smile but I also want a girl who has the strength to rearrange her whole world herself but also knows when to let someone step in and in this book, it took a while for that to happen. Lucy was just kinda straight out mean at first! While she needed a great man in her life, sometimes I felt that Benji was too good for her and too forgiving to her. But Angie, Lucy’s daughter, dang, that girl won my heart over. It was kinda worth all of Lucy’s moments to see how wonderful Angie and Benji got along.

Now I am not saying that I didn’t like this book – I honestly did like it a lot. So please don’t let me ruin it with my above rant. It just feels like this is all I am reading anymore and I just want both of my characters on even ground so they can grab hands and take off running towards a sunset and in a glorious relationship.

That being said, I thought “Rushing the Goal” was a good addition to Aleo’s series – a series which we have loved from the start.

The Assassins is one of my favorite hockey series. Toni Aleo, with her creative magic wand, gives us such breathtaking hockey Gods that I want to spend more time at the rink in hopes of catching a glimpse of someone just like the one I read about. Her wand was working overtime with Mr. Benji Paxton, who was the absolute best match for tough as nails Lucy Sinclair.

Benji was a lovable goof. He was soft-spoken, shy and nerdy all rolled up into one. He wasn't an overly dominate male who was determined to keep his woman in her place. Which was a good thing considering who his love interest was. I fell for Benji from the very beginning. He had his faults, he fought his demons and accepted them, but it was his willingness to try to find someone to create a family with that had me standing in line with my hand up. Benji's past isn't pretty and all that he lost is heartbreaking. But I loved how he didn't let what happened keep him at rock bottom. He dug his way out and found a way to try again.

Lucy is such a special character. If you've read the Bellevue Bullies series, we were introduced to the sharp-tongued, no bullshit taking older sister to the Sinclair boys. We knew Lucy had been through a rough divorce, but in RUSHING THE GOAL we find out just how bad things were for Lucy. She was kinda my hero. She ran from a bad situation (mostly of her own making...which she completely owns up to) and is determined to stand on her own two feet. Despite not wanting to take handouts from her family, she does an amazing job of providing for her daughter and herself. And I couldn't honestly blame her for not wanting to dip her toe in the dating pool...regardless of how hot Benji was in his Assassin sweatpants. But I also found myself begging her to try. To let go and trust that Benji would be there for her and catch her if she fell.

Things aren't easy for Lucy and Benji, but I think the rough road they had to travel made them both realize they were a sum of their pasts. Benji could be Lucy's rock and Lucy could lean on Benji when she needed extra strength. When they figured that out, what they had was pretty damn special and an absolute pleasure to read.
