I found the ending a bit disappointing and the writing style wasn’t my favorite.

This book was painful for me - there were many parts that needed to be repeated, because I was so uninterested, I actually didn’t register any of the actual plot going on, just phasing out, only to get really confused what was going on.
I just finished it, and I already feel it slipping from my mind.
Set in a gated community, a sort of ‘messy neighbourhood’, where perfect facades are a must have, the story revolves around Alice and her boyfriend moving into this community to start their life together after doing long distance for a while. Only problem is, that the man of her life is holding secrets about his life, the house and everything in between, so Alice decides to do some sleuthing and comes up with theories on who can be behind the mystery of this neighbourhood and some of its less than friendly inhabitants.
My ignorance for this story ran so deep, that I missed many little details that was part of the ‘big twist’, such as the psychological warfare of hidden objects around the house. Some of Alice’s thoughts were downright annoying, so I just stopped paying attention too. Explaining obvious clues away, trying to drive the attention away from it, but still having to give it out to the reader, so it’s ‘there’.
Maybe the reason why this book didn’t resonate with me was just that: I could not stand the main character and her unreasonable obsession with a random murder of someone whose only connection with her is the first name, which is her sister’s name. I found her too nosy to my liking, but it might be really just a bad/unfortunate fit with me.

Why do I keep reading these popular books that drive me nuts? This slow burner is basically about a bored woman who has too much time on her hands. She stresses about getting along with the women in her neighborhood and is too nosy and obsessed with her neighbors. By the time the crime happened, I didn't care too much.
