Well-thought-out exploration of the dangers of marketisation, the ethical implications of genetic manipulation, AND DINOSAURS. What's not to like? I love a good dinosaur, that's for sure. Can you tell I like this book? You might like it too. Check it out.

A lot of people get killed by dinosaurs in this book. Some of it is very VERY graphic, even described via POV at one point. Seriously, the book is quite a bit gorier than the movie. There's also several depictions of medical treatment as a result of the aformentioned dinosaur violence, and some of that is pretty unpleasant too. This is a case where the movie ruined the book for me. I understand why Lex was written the way they were but I absolutely hated reading anything they were doing. I found none of the characters charming and aside from the very violent scenes I was a bit bored. This was not a hit for me and I usually prefer stories that are slower to the scare.

As someone who saw the movie well before reading the book, I greatly enjoyed the philosophical discourse the book has to offer. A tense thriller of "will they make it out alive?" sprinkled with "what got them here?"

If you're going into this book expecting a play by play of the movie, you're in for quite a surprise. Maybe that's why this book was a bit of a tough read for me since I knew it was different from the film but...wow. The fact just about everybody dies before they explode the island- I'll be honest, I was not expecting that whatsoever Overall, it was a good read. Incredibly tense and had me on the edge of my seat multiple times. I'll be honest though, I 100% could have done without Lex's character in this book. Crichton really captured the spirit of an annoying child because I was ready to strangle her at so many points. Aside from that, solid sci-fi read!
