For no particularly good reason, a middle aged mother just decides to wander off from her family aimlessly. She briefly falls in love with some random guy she finds sleeping on a beach, only to leave him and stay with an elderly woman after failing to steal her handbag. I didn't realize it until the end that my dad has pulled this kind of shit before, and it's weird to see it portrayed from her point of view, like she's the protagonist. It's pretty shitty to just walk off like that, telling nobody of what you're doing or why. Regardless, I liked the story.

This was another random library grab, the cover just called out to me. This graphic novel is the story of a mother (in an abusive relationship) that takes off on a whim. She spends days at the ocean trying to find her way back to herself. It's a beautiful story and I really enjoyed the art. Even though it sounds sad and depressing it was actually really uplifting and positive.

I really liked this graphic novel. I too wish I could do off and do my own thing, have an adventure; though it’s very unlikely.

This graphic novel is a great read when you want something indefinably spooky. Told from a variety of viewpoints, the reader sees what it might be like to drop your life as it is right now, and try another, encountering others that live on the edge of society. Enjoyable and now can't shake the feeling that we are each closer to losing what we have than we realize.

So, it's been a while since I've devoured a book so readily, but since it was a graphic novel published by the NBM Comics Lit, I couldn't ignore it. Like any graphic fiction made by anyone in Europe, there's a slow, lilting pace to the entire story, told through various flashbacks until the present. It's about a woman and mother who, after feeling like she has failed, decides to simply...wander away from her life. The setting, the story and the entire feeling of existential angst is very, very French. It's pretty cool as a story, and the art is downright fantastic (watercolor and inks and hand-lettered captions all throughout the book!).

It's rather adult though, so, it's not for kids.

I enjoyed this - it's definitely a different sort of graphic novel. Lulu, a housewife, becomes despondent after her first job interview in several years and goes walkabout. She leaves her three children and her very unlikeable husband behind for a few weeks to escape, and we are told her story through the lens of her friends and family, some of whom have taken it upon themselves to spy on her during this little walkabout. It's a very different story, and the characters encountered along the way present unique perspectives on Lulu and her experiences.

The characters are wonderfully drawn, and it's interesting to see people rendered in a way that doesn't aim to make them especially attractive -- instead, they look like real people you might encounter on the street. I'm definitely going to be thinking about it for a while.
