While I thought the spice was nice and I love the forbidden love trope this book was way too angsty and cringy that I almost dnfed it at 80 percent.
Emotional torture but the payoff is *worth* it. There's so much angst I felt it as physically.

It's a huge woe-is-me pity party but with lots of sex. The narrator was great!
Overall, I liked this. I actually liked the flashbacks, I thought they were used really well and added to the story. I liked the structure of the plot, especially how it allowed the relationship of the two MCs to develop. The best thing about the book was their relationship which was really sweet.
However, the writing was a bit stilted and unnatural in parts. The angst was pretty repetitive. And worst of all, the racist depiction of “Africa”.

I enjoyed the lust of the relationship but it did feel slightly repetitive in some parts when it came to their feelings or problems they faced. I would have loved more of Mrs Middleton's story because I loved her character and would have loved to learn more about her life.
This book destroyed me, put me back together and then left me totally in love with both MC's.
