I'm a huge fan of age-gap romances and Melissa Tereze wrote a really great one with Mrs. Middleton. While this plot has been done before, I always like to give the author the benefit of the doubt and I'm glad I did.
Emma met her best friends' mother over a decade before and fell instantly in love. On the eve of her 18-month journey to Africa, she called Vanessa (a then married woman) and confessed her love. Little did Emma know that Vanessa returned said feelings. When Emma returned to the UK after her contract was up in Africa, she naturally, stayed with Vanessa whose daughter and Emma's best friend, Lauren, was travelling to Australia to visit with her boyfriend.
With Emma and Vanessa living in the same house, their feelings came to the surface and they finally gave in to temptation. The book progressed naturally with the continual push-pull between the two and the worry of how their relationship would affect Lauren. They both spent an inordinate amount of time worrying about Lauren's feelings instead of their own.
I found this book engaging, emotional, extremely sexy, and entertaining! I'd highly recommend to anyone looking for an escape for a few hours!

This was a steamy, angsty read. I enjoyed this story. The pull and chemistry that Vanessa and Emma have are white-hot. I liked atching them fight their attraction to each other. Will they or won't they?! AHHHHHHH!!! I don't want to give any spoilers soooo I'll just say if you like wlw angst , forbidden attraction, age gaps and a whole lot of hotness, you'll get it here.
There was a lot of angst in this book and not enough character development. The emotional element felt lost on me. I failed to connect with the main characters and didn't really feel either one was as mature as their age would have suggested.
The dialogue was repetitive, shallow and so overly explanatory, like two young, insecure women trying to convince one another that the other is the love of their life but failing miserably at it.
The "baby" and "babe" felt so out of place.
The sex scenes were hot although some didn't make much sense and sounded far fetched.
By the end it all turned into a mess and I had a really hard time believing those two could ever manage a long-term relationship with all the pointless, confusing melodrama.

I don't even know how I got this far into the book...
1) The plot is like a Swiss cheese. Most of the things were inadequately developed.
2) No connection between the characters/felt forced; Honestly, they feel more lust than love towards one another. Also, there was quite a lot of conversation, in which they declared their love for one another, that often felt tedious to read through. However, we rarely saw how this love was expressed. Overall the relationship/connection between them was bland and rushed.
3) The dynamics between the daughter and mother were not well developed imo (e.g., at some point the daughter discoveres the forbidden affair and stops talking to the mom - the mom has inadequate reaction and is not trying to make things up with her daughter. The mother acts quite selfishly and is quite passive-aggressive in the way she defends her relationship in front of her daughter. Basically the mom guilt trips the daughter.
4) Some cringe moments that were a bit..
5) The sex scenes/parts felt like they came straight out of a cheap lesbian porn.

While I thought the spice was nice and I love the forbidden love trope this book was way too angsty and cringy that I almost dnfed it at 80 percent.
