I totally forgot about Monty and Felicity’s baby brother, so I didn’t realise this book was going to be about him. It was therefore a lot less queer than the other two books as he is the token straight brother, however we still get to see our faves, and I do love Adrian now! He’s aware both of the privilege he has meaning he has the opportunity to fight for reform in public, and also that things like the opinions of strangers don’t logically matter, but that doesn’t lessen his anxiety at all. If you are not in a great place at the moment I would not recommend picking up this book until you are. The anxiety representation was very real and painful, much like the representation of queerness and epilepsy, it is also explored how this is not understood in the period. Adrian feels his mother made his struggles “weather, not climate”, but he no longer believes he has anyone who can understand how he feels. There were so many resonant moments, but I do have to say that this was the strength of the book, and I feel it certainly was nowhere near the level of the first book, and I’d probably also rate it slightly lower than the second.

Really cute ending to a series that focuses on a character who suffers from anxiety and depression
just like the other two books the ailments that the main characters have, that others may view as being wrong with you, are not fixed at the end. Instead Adrian is able to learn to love himself despite of the things that may hurt

“She purses her lips, then says directly and with no room for misinterpretation, “How often is your daily living impeded by your mental illness?”
And maybe it’s not always this bad. And maybe I’m not always convinced I’ve been poisoned and my body needs to be drained of blood. And maybe it’s not always like this, but that doesn’t mean it never is, nor that what it is instead is any easier to bear. So I tell the truth. “Every day.”

I adored the approach when aging them up.
Monty
never loses his characteristic snark, but you can tell he's dulled and exhausted. Seeing
Felicity
as a
respected physician
was splendid. Aging characters up is always a little tricky, it’s difficult to strike that balance between years of experience and age has changed them and this is still fundamentally the same person, but I think Lee does it extraordinarily well. I believed
Monty
was older the second he made his appearance, I felt it. I'm a WEE bit disappointed we didn’t get to spend more time with
Louisa and Edward
, though considering it's the last book I understand the decision to do so. And the plot this time around unfortunately didn’t quite click for me. I think I would’ve preferred it if
there had really been no ship
. I think that would’ve landed the message more heavily, but that’s my onion. Regardless I loved spending time with these characters one last time and I cried at the end.

This book is beautifully written, and I loved the story. I wish there were another book in this series, because by this point, I feel as though the characters have become my friends. That said, the anxiety that the main character struggled with was far too intense for me. I read fiction for the adventure and for the escape to other worlds, and unfortunately, the anxiety episodes in this book were too real for me to properly enjoy the story.

An incredible ending to a well-written trilogy. Lee has put everything into this book, and I couldn't put it down for more than a few minutes before the urge to continue reading took over. It's been a long time since I read something that enveloped me so entirely. This was a fantastic read, and I want to experience the trilogy all over again. There are so many flags in this copy I have, so many passages that spoke to me personally or left me breathless. I love Adrian, and my adoration for Monty and Felicity have only grown. I can't wait to reread this and the first two books again. So well done. I can't recommend this series to my friends enough. So, so lovely. I closed the cover feeling nothing but love.
