It's hard to rate a book that you don't care for during the first 200 pages but then really lights up in the end. I'll have to think about it some more...

Witty, clever, made me feel smart. Laughed out loud on the bus. But full of meaningful, poignant quotes that went into my quote book.

not sure so far... but, you know, I'm only on page 35 or something. Love that the chapters are ultra short...

Not an easy read, plods a bit when getting into the the philosophies but it is worth persisting. Enjoyed the film much more because I had read the book.

Chicago Book Club book for March.
Took a while to get into it, but I liked it. Very French.

3.5 The story is told by two narrators, one of which (a young girl, named Paloma) I found grating in the beginning. Eventually, her voice became more insightful and added to the other narrator's musings. The second narrator, Renee, was entertaining and I enjoyed her passages a lot. The story itself is a glimpse of Parisian life; young, old, rich, poor, educated, uneducated, selfish and unselfish.

I had a hard time getting into this book, even put it down several times to read other books. However once I got to the last third of the book it became more enjoyable. Overall a sweet story, just takes a while to get there.
