I have a new theory. If I'm not into a book after 100 pages, it's time to let it go. Farewell Elegance of the Hedgehog.

Good overall and interesting, but sometimes could be a bit long-winded. The second-half is much better than the first.

Very charming. Some esoteric "look at me" spurts of prose in there, but mostly germane to the story. The central relationship and story were quite affecting, though.

La seconda parte è da 5 stelle, purtroppo la prima si dilunga in autoerotismi letterari e filosofici che non aiutano la narrazione, ma denotano gli anni spesi in cattedra dall'autrice.

What a delightful book and amazing translation from French. The chapters are short and to the point, although sometimes tend to wax a particular subject a bit too much for me. I really liked the characterization of the three main characters. Great insight.

I savored nearly every paragraph in this existential novel!
Two unlikely similar characters narrate their take on life and the community in their French neighborhood. Renée is the philosophical concierge to a bourgeois apartment building in Paris while Paloma, resident of said apartment, is wise beyond her thirteen years.
Exploring the absurd world through their eyes is enlightening, at times somber but invariably endearing.
Topped French best-seller lists for 30 consecutive weeks and is an international bestseller.
