I finished several of the stories and I've just come to accept that his humor is not for me.

As always- I adore David Sedaris’ stories. His writing is fabulous, and his wit has me laughing out loud.

The reason I gave this book 4 stars is, because I like his writing so much - I had already heard most of these stories 3 times or so. I am glad there is a compilation he is happiest with, but I didn’t really need it. Not to say someone else doesn’t.

All in all I will continue to listen to (because audiobooks of his books are way better - since he reads them) anything Mr Sedaris puts out into the world.

Unsurprisingly brilliant.

Found myself laughing out loud several times, funny and clever book.

i hadn’t read david sedaris in a WHILE and i’m so glad i got ahold of this. my favorite stories are the ones about his family. i had forgotten all of the details about his life, but it all came flooding back in the latter half of this collection.

it’s INCREDIBLY strange to have learned about the elán disciplinary school / nightmare torture facility for children, and then to learn that david’s youngest sister had been sent there and was one of the victims??? her life story is so bleak and horrible, the details of her suicide kinda gruesome, and the description of her last encounter with david very troubling. but he’s completely honest and is totally willing to make himself look like a bad person in situations where he was a bad person. it’s exactly the kind of stuff i want to know and read about in memoirs.

somehow the saddest stories have humor, the silliest stories have poignancy, the recollections as well as the fiction have worthwhile insight and an original thought to offer the reader. i’m fascinated by the sedaris family. i gotta reread more of his stuff.

fun fact, in college i met david sedaris at a book signing. i bought two copies of Let’s Explore Diabetes With Owls. he drew a gun in my copy, and in keith’s copy he wrote “i dig your super sexy girlfriend”

A collection of David Sedaris’ best essays... what’s not to love?

I have read/ heard almost everything in here before but enjoyed them all again.

Always love David Sedaris - I don't think there were any new to me essays in this book, but that's fine by me. :) I did skip the animal "fables" - they're just not my cup of tea.
funny hopeful lighthearted medium-paced
