As usual, I LOVE David Sedaris! I was introduced to him in college when I had to read “Naked” and he’s been in and out of my life ever since. Each time I read or reread, I’m someplace different in my life and find a new appreciation. It was nice to revisit old favorites, as well as read some new ones. His writing always manages to evoke a relatability unlike any other. No other author makes me laugh out loud the way he does. Like many, I feel I know his characters or I have a shadow of that person in my own life. There’s a level of comfort his stories bring that lets you know the oddities of your life and your thoughts are not so odd after all. Interestingly too, is how his writing can connect so deeply with the reader that it makes one feel as though they too could be a writer. I think I’ll leave that job to David. He does it so perfectly!

I highly recommend the audio of this book and all his others. To hear it in his voice is an experience of its own.

An hilarious and honest throw back! Sedaris’ dark, candid, and unique perspective on life and his surroundings is, at times, so relatable, and always amusing. In this compilation, we get a glimpse through the author’s life and years of writing as we take a trip into his fictional world, his childhood, the beach house and experiences around the world all while maintaining the undertone of the importance of family. Always a favorite.

Always best in audio.

I've read about half of the essays in this book and there have been a couple of gems, but nothing that's really resonated with me. Hoping to pick this up from time to time and revisit this rating.

It’s been over a decade since I’ve read some of these... still hilarious ❤️

I've read most of David Sedaris' books, and he continues to delight me. His essays about learning French in Paris made me cry-laugh AGAIN. My husband was like "You've read that before, why are you crying?"

Honestly not my favorite of his stuff

I always recommend listening to David Sedaris versus reading David Sedaris, and while that holds true here (there are even some chapters pulled from live shows), you can't go wrong either way. He's a master story teller and these are his greatest hits, along with a few previously-unpublished essays that lean more toward the tender, insightful side than the comical, over-the-top side. Oh, to be a guest at a Sedaris family reunion...
