I just really didn't love this. Honestly, I was a bit bored. I am not sure if it was the text of the stories, or if perhaps the narration just made me want to tune it out. I had planned to write a more useful review, but honestly can't find the energy to devote more time to it.
I mostly wanted to read the father of cosmic horror’s iconic The Call of Cthulhu to know what the hype was about… I read that story in full and now I have a better understanding of Lovecraft’s style and can say things are “Lovecraftian” with actual knowledge… I tried to read some of the other stories and just couldn’t get past the pervasive racism and very obvious fear of and disdain for Africans and other Indigenous cultures. (Not that I wasn’t expecting it, but just don’t want to keep reading it.)
Love the writing style. Beautiful descriptions for the most part. Some of the stories are a bit contrived. Others are rather excellent. That said, I had a hard time getting past the virulent racism.

William Roberts is a great narrator for Lovexraft, he has a really good radio voice that adds so much.
This was a weird one. Some stories I found really engaging, other...not so much.
It was hard to get through some of the racist and obtuse references but I expected that. It's a good read if you are looking for a snapshot of what those in the past were fearful of.

This was not spooky or weird at all...so "ooh something is happening and then it stopped *shrugs*" not what I was expecting or wanting...also found out he wasn't a good person so stopped reading.
