I adored this. Holy crap. Zabriel and Isavelle have a million problems but I still adored the story and the characters and I'm so pumped to read the next book.

Idk man, this proves I'll read anything.

If I never read the word slick, knot, or alpha in the third person again, I’ll die a happy person. Was there even a plot?

My Rating: 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I had such a wonderful time reading this book it was fantastic!
If you are looking for a fantasy romance with a strong and super protective hero who would go to the ends of the earth for his Queen, he is also the king and a dragon rider. And a heroine who is kind and gentle but still strong despite the hardship she’s been through. I almost forgot to mention she has a dragon also

I'm teetering between 3.5 and 4 stars because for all the things i loved about this book, there were things i equally hated. Zabriel is a golden retriever and doesn't hesitate to let others know that Isavelle belongs to him and him alone. You give me a book with an OTT MC, fantasy, dragons, kings, and mages, i'm reading instantly. WHAT I COULD HAVE DONE WITHOUT, is a scary cat whiny FMC. So if you tortured yourself and watched season 8 of Game of Thrones, you'll remember all Jon Snow said the entire season is "I don't want it," referring to the crown. This book was like that. Throughout the entire book all she says is "I don't want to do this, I'm not doing that, Im going home." She gets kidnapped or almost kidnapped because she's hellbent on doing her own thing. She completely ignores things that feel familiar to her and even when someone explains them to her, the response is always, "I need to find my family and go home." The first few chapters I got it. She went through serious trauma, but when does she grow up? When does her character improve? That's what annoys me about writers who write female characters with trauma. When she rejected Esmeral, oh I hated her. That was the last straw for me. They never seem to grow them up in the books. They're riddled with self pity and close in on themselves. Then magically when the book is almost over, they find their courage and they live happily ever after. If you take out the female main character, the book is great LOL. I will read book two because the authors did leave me wanting to know what happens next and the overal preface of the book is entertaining. Just please don't make Isavelle whiny...again.

I'm here for the occasional hints of
worldbuilding, political intrigue, and lore, but not much else.

I feel like we got nowhere and did
nothing for no reason, and then
wrapped that whole giant nothing
burger up with a stupid shock value cliffhanger just cause we could. Not a single likeable character in this, either. Pity cause there were traces of an interesting story in there somewhere.

Also, why did there need to be
implied incest, and why was this not mentioned under the trigger
warnings?

Here, finally, is one dragon book that actually merits getting compared to Fourth Wing, because it's almost just as poorly written.
