I've been looking everywhere for a mf omegaverse romance, so when I found out Lilith Vincent was releasing one under Chloe Chastaine, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it! I'm still relatively new to this particular subgenre, and if you haven't experienced it yet yourself, I think The Flame King's Captive is the perfect book to get your feet wet. The heroine, Isavelle, doesn't know anything about alphas, betas, or omegas, so readers have the opportunity to learn everything right alongside her.

In addition, the hero, Zabriel, isn't a complete caveman alpha. He's patient and respectful of Isavelle while she comes to terms with being an Omega, his mate, and all that entails, and he works hard to earn her trust instead of just expecting it outright. Don't get me wrong, he's still dominant, protective, possessive, and wants to put a baby in her asap, but he's gentle with Isavelle, because he knows it's what she needs.

While many stories featuring fated mates can be instalove and fast to heat up, Isavelle and Zabriel's romance is a slow build, but it's absolutely worth it. The sexual tension between them is always through the roof. Their slow burn allows their relationship to develop over time into something deeper than just a predisposition to want to fuck each other's brains out and think the sun shines out of their mate's ass because of their special connection. Because of Zabriel, Isavelle is treated with respect, love, and kindness for the first time in years, and she sees how Zabriel fights his own instincts and ignores his own wants and needs to do what makes her feel the most comfortable, safe, happy, and in control. Zabriel's love for and commitment to Isavelle, as well as his obsession and appreciation for her body never fails to melt her heart along with her panties, and it had a similiar affect on me, too.

The Flame King's Captive is everything I hoped it would be, a fantasy romance with fated mates, omegaverse designations and relationship dynamics, and all the praise and breeding kink that goes along with it. To top it all off, there's also motherfucking dragons! I'm a dragon lover in general, but having read Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros recently, I'm seriously in the mood for the fire-breathing beasts, so they were definitely a highlight of the book for me.

Overall, the author did an amazing job with Zabriel and Isavelle's story. The plot is intriguing and well paced. The characters and the dragons are incredible, and the romance is sweet and hot. I enjoyed the hell out of every minute of this book, and I can't wait for more! Fingers crossed the next installment comes soon, so I'm not in misery too long.

Fantasy romance and omegaverse romance fans, this one's for you!

Alcune cose un po' prevedibili, ma l'ho comunque adorato.
Peccato che per il secondo manchi praticamente un anno...

I finished this book in a day and a half. That should say it all. I could not put it down! This was my first time reading a book by Chastaine, but I'm thrilled to have done so.

The pacing of this book is perfect. Immediately, you are dropped into the action - no waiting around for things to pick up. But even so, the pacing of the storyline is so well balanced with the characters that you don't have that feeling of being rushed through. I'm picky about pacing as it can leave you feeling rushed and not believing in the relationships, but this hit the perfect mark (for me, at least).

Our FMC is quite broken, and rightfully so, given the abuse she's suffered. We see her struggle with her trauma throughout the book, but bit by bit, she is recovering. I like that this is a slow progress, as it would be in real life. She has steps forward and steps back in the process as well, which adds to the realistic portrayal of her trauma.

While there are side characters, it did not feel like they were an overwhelming presence in the story. This book really focused on our FMC and MMC, with bits of the other characters thrown in to support their relationship development. I felt this was well done also and in good balance for the overall storyline.

And as usual, the Dragons are the cherry on top of an already exciting and well written story.

The cliffhanger left me gaping, and I was livid to realize Book 2 is so far away. Oh well, more time to reread this one before it's release! If you haven't explored this genre yet, this is a great book to start with. I'm not usually a fan of this genre, but sometimes it is well written enough for me and this is one of those times. Bravo!

God damn that was good it was almost a 5 star but the FMC did annoy me at times but it wasn’t bad enough to take off an entire star

❤️‍

Okay I just finished and I need to talk about it. I read it in one sitting. This book is absolutely incredible. It's most definitely one of my favorite books of the year.

The characters are absolutely amazing. The character growth from Isavelle is wonderful. She turns into quite the badass. All of the other characters were great as well, you really feel connected to them and invested in their stories. Plus touch her and die vibes from Zabriel? Swoon.

Also can we talk about the lore? It's so easy to follow which is a huge thing for me. There's been so many times where a book has lost me because it feels like an info dump and this definitely was not that.

It's all around just fantastic and I desperately need book two asap

I am not made for the Omegaverse

Jesus Christ, JAYSUS CHRIST, I loved this book. Instantly sold. Selling my soul to the author and howling to the moon. There wasn’t a single aspect I didn’t like about this book. I LOVED EVERY SECOND. BARK BARK BARK
slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I’m not a huge Omega-verse person, but fated mates/stolen bride/he falls first & earns her affection? THE best. This is definitely a slow burn with both plot and the main relationship. I suspect I’ll be more thankful for this once the sequel is out, as the set up makes it seems like the action will come in hot and heavy and it will be hugely important that we spent so much time seeing how this couple came together.

I really loved this and am excited to continue reading! Really wish the sequel wasn’t so far out though oof. I’m on overkill with unfinished series and need to stop picking them up for a bit.

As much as I loved this,
i desperately hope the second book doesn’t have the FMC and MMC split up for the majority. I just personally really don’t like when characters go through SO much to get together and then are torn apart in the sequel. I get why it happens, but I always feel like there are better story telling options! I have a feeling Emmeric is going to mark her. I wish this had spent a bit more time on the lore and magic building. I don’t have a single clue how the FMCs magic works, and still no not understand what Odanna’s deal is. After 500 pages, I would have liked to have connected the dots just a little bit.
