I don't know what's going on with my reading lately besides Mary Balogh, because I don't know how to rate this one. But in the author's defense I didn't realize this had an Alpha/Omegaverse, so I think if I had known that beforehand I would have reacted differently.

It's an omegaverse fantasy with dragon riders, a lost king returning after 500 years sleeping under a mountain, fated mates, properly eeeevil villains, and a steep cliffhanger. Engaging and fun with likable characters and only a few small quibbles. The alternating first person POVs doesn't quite work for me in a high fantasy setting. I look forward to the next volume (in which I hope someone dick punches a certain villain.)
